When using dialup to transfer work units, I am having the problem of finishing a work unit, but when I get a dialup connection up, BOINC comes back with 'deferred connection for 2 hours, or words to that effect. Since I don't have the 2 hours to wait, it may be another 12 hours or so before the next connection. Seems like a huge waste of CPU cycles to me. Is there a way to force the BOINC Connection ????

When you are on the internet you can manually update! to do this open BOINC and right click the project in the project tab and click update!

You can also go to the transfers tab right click on the stalled transfer and click retry now.

There is a disable network access option under the file menu. This will stop BOINC from trying to connect if selected.

No, it won't!

There is a "known issue" that this is not working for dial-up users (who are the main ones who would want this option).

Errmmmm... Yes it does. I use it a lot, and I'm on dial up.

What it doesn't do is stay disabled if you restart the client. It will turn itself back on, so you must turn it off again.

It's not wise to doubt JKeck, Tim. ;-)
