I don't really have a question, just wanted to vent and say goodbye to seti. The folks who decided migrating to boinc would be a good thing broke many rules of good project migration: communication with users, testing, smooth transition to new software, etc.

Here are just a few of my rants:

I too, got the fatal error: 1 message and wasted over an hour trying to find out what the problem was.

what's with the user id? does it have to be such a large combination scrambled characters?

my computer hangs with the boinc screen frozen on my display.

the wu number I have under the old seti is being misreported

There doesn't seem to be any more work to be processed, as I get no work from project messages and then told I have to wait an hour for another check, just to be told there is no work available then either

There seems to be no way to record your preferences locally

I have more, but that's enough. I'm going to remove boinc and say goodbye to the seti project. I'm not going to have some program running on my system that isn't going to do anything useful but displaying messages saying it won't do anything for an hour.

I agree with you, the only 2 people who have the program working posted the above replies. The rest of us just wait for the wu's, sometimes for days.

Hello there,

It really works, but has still some growing pains.
If you don't believe this look at my stats...
It's gonna be allright but this is not "a medium or big company project"... You should not forget that there are many many thousands of users and that we are with distributed computing in a new era of computing. In the first days of the BBS'and the first days of computing there where problems too...
(At the time we used to work with punched cards)...then there were problems too...

Be patient angry persons are a vexation for mind and spirit.
In one aspect I do give you credit; They REALLY should DO something about their public relations otherwise MANY will lose their enthousiasm.

Greeting from Belgium, ;-))
