Hi,

I'm running boinc_cli.exe as a service (Windows XP) and all 4 CPUs are utilized/recognised. However, no log is created for me to see what is going on, nor are any completed WUs uploaded to seti.

I cannot rely on the GUI, as the computer must be 100% functional in the event of a reboot, and when user has logged out of Windows.

Therefore: how to enforce/schedule/control WU upload/download with boinc_cli.exe?

The usage from the Boinc_cli.exe

To pause/resume tasks hit CTRL-C, to exit hit CTRL-BREAK
Usage: boinc_cli [options]
-version show version info
-install install boinc as a Windows Service
-uninstall uninstall boinc as a Windows Service
-exit_when_idle Get/process/report work, then exit
-show_projects show attached projects
-return_results_immediately contact server when have results
-detach_project URL detach from a project
-reset_project URL reset (clear) a project
-attach_project attach to a project will prompt for URL,account key
-update_prefs URL contact a project to update preferences
-run_cpu_benchmarks run the CPU benchmarks
-check_all_logins check input from remote users
-allow_remote_gui_rpc allow remote GUI RPC connections

I am told it logs the messages from that in the machines application logs

Hi Comatose,

Thanks for your update.

Indeed Boinc updates Windows event log! That is actually a positive surprise! Alas - the logging in eventvwr is not good - all updates are erraneous. Instead of just the message there is a system error when Boinc updates eventlog:

Event Type: Information
Event Source: BOINC
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1
Date: 19.07.2004
Time: 23:07:32
User: N/A
Computer: SANDBUKTA9_01
Description:
The description for Event ID ( 1 ) in Source ( BOINC ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: 2004-07-19 23:07:32 [SETI@home] Started upload of 12ja04ab.9108.10256.515890.21_0_0
; .

The above entry is locally on the same computer as the boinc client. This looks like a bug to me..

start the windows cli with -return_results_immediatly

That will get them sent back.. (it doesn't sit as "ready to report" to you gui folks!) (I think you can specify this option on the gui version, BTW!)

But, it could be days before you see a single credit, as two other systems must also return "good" results, and the WU could be at the bottom of another users cache......
