It's just not funny any more, posting anything on the Number Crunching forums. No matter how much wit you try to put in a post there, or whether or not you try to help folks, or just give an opinion... There's always immediately some folks putting one or more minus ratings on posts. Not only mine, but those of others as well. Maybe it's time I just detached from Seti, deleted all links to this project and forgot all about it, while focussing on those projects I still like to post on, where not all posts are immediately within the first minute minused out of existence. One of these days... Or how about we did away with the stupid rating of posts? Or only gave it the option to positive rate it? You don't like someone's posts? Put him/her on ignore. But what's the use of my help to someone being negatively rated out of existence? Where's the fun in that and how is that going to help someone else with the same problem in about a year? I'll be taking time off of these forums. All the negativity around is eating me up. I'm not a person you can lock up in the Cafe, just because you think I should be only posting (rants) there (e.g. rattleschneck's comment to Siran). When Seti goes down again, there will be 12 rants in NC and not one person complaining about them being posted in the "wrong" forums. Humor, rants, witty posts and more are "not allowed" in NC.. Or at least not according to those who always kick a rant up first when something isn't working correctly at Seti and they lose their stupid credits. All of the "rules" of where to post and how to post and what to post are made by the people posting here. I see the Seti forums, Science, NC and the Cafe as one forums. That's wrong thinking, I am told. I should be thinking of them as separate forums. The people next door are Bad! Maybe if the people telling me I am thinking wrong thought a bit further than the box they think out of, the forum's mentality would change. But as long as there's a mental boundary between all forums, you'll stay segregated. And those that minus your posts will keep to it. It's not even a choice of race or belief, it's them telling you you should only post in your forum, not theirs. I'll take my time off now. I'll probably see some of you on other forums, where there is no seperation/segregation. Where help and wit/humor in a post is welcomed. Houdoe! |

It's just not funny any more, posting anything on the Number Crunching forums. Aww Man Ageless, I know you are tougher than that Buddy. Don't let the Assholes get to you, I guarantee you they will give up eventually. I tried many many times to help in NC and there is always someone who thinks they know more than we do. Hell I crunch more BOINC projects in one day than most of those Know it alls do in a month!. I used to help as much as possible and only to have someone post the same information in a more tech way just to show how dam smart they are. Ageless the forums should be segregated, The cafe has it's purpose and NC has it's. Don't leave us at Cafe Seti and leave the butt heads doing all the negative ratings in NC (We Know who you are Assholes) When you have the need to go to NC just lurk!. and if you have a real problem you know how to get help off the boards. We are here to help you too!. |

Jord, Enjoy your vacation, I'm inclined to agree with CA, when he suggests lurking, but, would you be able to contain yourself :-) For your information, you, along with a few other notables, are someone who's posts I would always look at and value, no matter how many negatives they are hidden under. Then whining about getting minused is only asking for more negative ratings. Rating a post is a time consuming effort and sometimes helps keep the block list clear. |

Looks like a few people have consumed some time rating your post. It's funny how that works, I got minused when I started the 10th plannet thread, but I didn't read much into it. So I have come to take some of heat off you CR! Everyone Minus Away! I think it's the fuzzy squirrel sac you have, that drives them wild! IAS - Where Space Is Golden! |

Ageless, I agree with everyone here. I enjoy reading your posts, heck, I enjoy reading everyones post for that matter, unless you sound like a complete ass and trying to talk down apon others, then I could care less reading those. But not once have I ever seen you be a heartless person. Enjoy your vacation, and don't worry about all the jerks and assholes on the board. Everyone has an opinion. And this is mine. Take care. One thing I like about this cafe,is that,it has managed to keep out some of the bums,ding-dongs, nut cases out! We seem to have a few good bouncers to keep the peace. /edit/ to bad we don`t have a score board to keep track. |

It's just not funny any more, posting anything on the Number Crunching forums. No matter how much wit you try to put in a post there, or whether or not you try to help folks, or just give an opinion... There's always immediately some folks putting one or more minus ratings on posts. Not only mine, but those of others as well. Leaving because you got minused is analogous to moving out of the country because of a terrorist attack. I took that example to the extreme to highlight this point. If you leave because of something they are doing to you then all that does is confirm that their cowardly tactics are the way to go. Instead I say to stand your ground and stand up for yourself. I say this as a negatively-attacked expert. Whether you get minused or flammed by individuals or teams *wink* don't let it effect you personally. Oh sure something said to you might make you upset. That's called being human. But leave it in the forum. Don't take it with you after you log out. No matter what is said or done here we all still have to get up in the morning to go to work. We still have to put gas in our car. We still have to cut coupons to get the most savings at the supermarket. Remember that your real life is OFFLINE, not here in some textual forum in cyberspace that can get yanked at any moment because of a hardware failure, a pissed-off dev, or gigantic solar flares. Here are my own personal 5 posting guidelines that may help you avoid the evil SETI stress: 1) Don't bother with being Politically Correct. That is meant to soothe the nerves of the overly-sensitive mamby pamby paranoid crowd with their gouchi handbags and greasy combovers. 2) Say what you mean. Don't beat around the bush, and don't walk on eggshells around other participants. Speak your mind intelligently as a free individual. 3) Mean what you say. Be honest and truthful. That way no one can ever call you a liar or a flip-flopping troll. If you make a mistake and end up being wrong then you're wrong. Being wrong after the fact isn't lying. You're a human being, not a perfect being. 4) Don't say anything you might regret later. Think about what you're about to post before hitting that "post reply" button. That way you minimize anything that may come back to haunt you. 5) Don't take anything personally. Have a thick skin and don't let anyone here affect your emotional wellbeing. Be immune to flames and negative ratings. Let the bastards know that no matter what they say or do you'll be right back in their collective faces kicking them in their collective asses. Have fun with it. Bait them if you want. .o0(Hell I do it all the time!) Remember the slogan from Galaxy Quest. Never give up, never surrender! me@rescam.org |

Somewhat of an ironic topic for a thread for me, as I decided for awhile that I needed to be away doing other things (and yet others were thrust upon me). But one thing I have to say I don't get-- and it isn't just Ageless that's has said it-- is removing BOINC or detaching from a project just because one doesn't like the forums. If I don't like what's going on in a BBS, I just don't read it anymore. But frankly nobody here determines, in my mind, the worthiness of contributing to a project, just contributing to the forums themselves. I will admit that I detached from CPDN because I had an error I couldn't get help on to eliminate, but that's a horse of a different color, really. I've been "away" for awhile, every blue moon logging in to sample the "tone" and maybe catch a few science links, but nothing ever written here has ever made me want to detach from SETI. Just my two centavos. |

@ Ageless: My friend, I know we kind of got off on the wrong foot, but things have changed. I am proud to consider you one of my many friends here. I agree with all the differing view points and opinions stated here. Especially that long winded one from Misfit. >;-) We can't give in to those faceless cowards. I'm not. I will continue to post wherever, whenever, whatever I want. If I get minused, so-be-it, I get minused. They're going to find that nothing they do will drive me away from here, or anywhere for that matter. I have taken "breaks" from posting in the past. But, I returned and always will if I take breaks again. I will never detach from SETI. Of the 6 projects I am currently attached to, one not even sending work yet, SETI has been, is and always will be my favorite project to contribute to. Please don't detach and delete all links. Take a break, lurk and see what happens. I lurked when I took my breaks, it's still fun just to read and laugh. You will be missed my friend. I value your input, your prose, your ideas, your wit, etc., etc. Just take a break, and you will be welcomed back with great enthusiasm.
