I just started trying to run SETI again after about 6 months. My account was still active, I downloaded and installed the BOINC program but nothing is happening. Task manager shows no activity. What have I forgotten?

My email is the same. It might be the attach thing but I can't find that option.

You're a nice guinea pig for this part of the Wiki, or this one.

Else I'd have to ask, what version you are presently using, and something else that I have just forgotten because I am being bugged by a mosquito. ;)

I'm not sure of the exact steps as BOINC manager has changed some since I attached last.

Try right clicking on the boinc icon in the system tray. Select "Open BOINC manager". When it opens go to the tab that says "Projects". Now push the button on the left that says "Attach to new project". I think now all you have to do is copy and paste the user name and account ID from the email that was sent to you making sure that you don't add any extra spaces.

Okay, I did all that but task manager still shows no activity.

Never mind the Task Manager, what does the BOINC message log say?

Good thinking MikeSW17

It looks like I am having trouble connecting right at the moment. Maybe we will have to wait for a little bit.

Message 143392 - Posted: 27 Jul 2005, 0:48:24 UTC

This is the message I'm getting:

7/26/2005 8:32:57 PM|SETI@home|Requesting 23451 seconds of work, returning 2 results
7/26/2005 8:33:19 PM|SETI@home|Scheduler request to http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi failed with a return value of -106
7/26/2005 8:33:19 PM|SETI@home|No schedulers responded
7/26/2005 8:33:20 PM|SETI@home|Deferring communication with project for 31 minutes and 57 seconds

Looks like they are down, so he won't be able to attach. He'll need to wait like the rest of us.

I wouldn't say it is...

27/07/2005 02:50:17|SETI@home|Sending scheduler request to http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi
27/07/2005 02:50:17|SETI@home|Reason: Requested by user
27/07/2005 02:50:17|SETI@home|Requesting 0 seconds of work, returning 1 results
27/07/2005 02:50:18|SETI@home|Scheduler request to http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi succeeded

(Someone thinking I 'fingered' this... here's the unit)

Yet it may have to do with the fact that the clients prior to 4.13 are no longer getting work. Then again, if I am correct, Rom said that clients older than 4.19 wouldn't get the work any more. That 'older' can go either way. ;)

No, SETI@Home/BOINC is up, but as mentioned on front-page and in technical news, they've just switched DNS on scheduling-server, and it can take some time before new address propagated...

The Admiral

Maybe check and see if you are getting any new messages under your "message" tab.

Everything has started working again here.

If that is all that is showing then you need to attach to a project using the info sent to you in the email from the projects that you have decided to work on. Then you will get info on the projects you are attached to.
Just like this:
7/26/05 3:22:54 AM||Starting BOINC client version 4.45 for windows_intelx86
7/26/05 3:22:54 AM||Data directory: D:\PROGRAM FILES\BOINC

7/26/05 3:22:54 AM|SETI@home|Computer ID: 194712; location: home; project prefs: default
7/26/05 3:22:54 AM|climateprediction.net|Computer ID: 50006; location: ; project prefs: default
7/26/05 3:22:54 AM|Einstein@Home|Computer ID: 10789; location: ; project prefs: default

7/26/05 3:22:54 AM|orbit@home|Computer ID: 782; location: home; project prefs: default
7/26/05 3:22:54 AM||General prefs: from SETI@home (last modified 2005-07-04 18:16:21)
7/26/05 3:22:54 AM||General prefs: no separate prefs for home; using your defaults
7/26/05 3:22:54 AM||Remote control not allowed; using loopback address

If you don't have the requied info go here and create an account:
http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/create_account_form.php

98SE XP2500+ @ 2.1 GHz Boinc v5.8.8

And God said"Let there be light."But then the program crashed because he was trying to access the 'light' property of a NULL universe pointer.

Means that your Boinc cant't get connected to the server.

One of my standard questions:
Is the machine connected to the world via a proxy? If yes, your Boinc manager must know. You can tell him under "Extras", "Options", Tab "HTTP Proxy"...

Okay, Thanks. I think I may have it now though I have not received any work as yet.
