I am having trouble with this on my new machine. I set it up like my old one and everything woeked well until the last couple of days. As it is part of start up I do not get the icon appearing and when I click on it it is not doing anything and I cannot close it down. Can anyone tell me what the problem is and how to sort it out?

Can you please give some more details, like which Boinc version, on what operating system and how you installed Boinc (single user, multi user or service installation)?

I am using the latest version of Boinc 4.45 using Seti 4.18. I did click on single user because I am the only one using it. I am running Windows XP Home, as I stated before it is only the latest couple of days I have had problems.

How do you start up Boinc? Automatically when you start up the computer/Windows?
If so, check what is started in Start->Programs->Startup and tell me please.

If you start it up by hand, what do you start up? Boinc.exe or Boincmgr.exe?
(Got a shortcut on your desktop maybe?)

Last, when you open up Task Manager (Rightclick on the taskbar, choose Task Manager. Or press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC to have it open up), can you tell me what's running in the processes tab? Does it say boinc.exe and boincmgr.exe already?

What happens if you open up Boincmanager with Task manager opened?

Is boinc.exe or boincmgr.exe using any CPU cycles?

Have you tried a reboot of your machine?

What messages do you get in the message log files. I take it that the BOINC Manager does not stay running?

When I click on the boinc manager when the machine starts I get nothing, not even the letter B on my task panel, but when I click in programs for Boinc and get the letter B I get all the usual information. It seems to fail at start up take it of and go through programs everything runs ok.

Have you got the correct shortcut in your startup folder?

Try deleteing the shortcut from startup and then copying the BOINC Manager shortcut from the BOINC folder to your Startup folder.

Some of the versions are less graceful than others in making the first connection. So, the first time it comes up blank because the manager came up before the Daemon and thus nothing to connect to.

Just use connect to with a blank for the computer and / or close and re-open the manager.
