No, but I do contribute on a frequent basis...

Stewie: So, is there any tread left on the tires? Or at this point would it be like throwing a hot dog down a hallway?

a "dumpster" is a trash receptacle. Old puter parts can be found and retrieved from them....AKA "Dumpster Dive".

dumpster (USA) = Skip (UK)

so dumpster diver = skip scavenger?

i've rescued two good hard drives from the skip on the "innovation centre" (aka industrial estate)where i work.

It wasn't so long ago that the hard drives were manufactured in your back yard. Most of the older midrange drives I see being pulled & replaced were manufactured in England.

Dumpsters tend to be large and easy to fall into if you try to stay out side of them ... thus, diving ...

I don't know if they showed the ameerican express comercial where Donald Trum fell in one over there ...

I went dumpster diving this afternoon!!! Right outside my own door, no less. The garbage truck had come this afternoon, so when I went to take out my trash and noticed that the dumpster was OVERLOADED I was taken aback. There were boxes of perfectly good stuff in there. Evidently, someone is moving.

I poked a little bit, not having much time and right there in the first box I examined was a beautiful little necklace. It is costume jewelry, to be sure, but I've got a 4.5 year old girl who will just love it.

There were some music books but nothing I was interested in and they weren't in good enough condition to plop 'em up on Ebay.

Ahhhh I love free stuff.

What part of the Country do you dive in? I have been known to throw WHOLE computers away before! I have 2 or 3 15" monitors I can't find a home for now.

Computers, TV's, VCR's whatever. A friend at work fixes them and sells them. I'm looking right now at one of hers - a 22" monitor, found on the street.
Me, I just find bicycles, microwave ovens, furniture.
But old computers tend not to be so good for Boinc projects, as their CPU's are not too quick.

MMMmmmm... junk...

Items placed in the trash and set out for the service workers to collect is judged "free game" for one in all -- just make sure you don't get arrested for littering however ...

NOTE: the dumpster has to be on public property. Don't come up near my house and got through it there. Wait till it's by the street.

Also, NO you can't just walk behind the "Geek Squad" counter and look in the trash can either. You have to wait till it' outside.

Caution: Stay away from the trash of people with infants.
