Has anyone else had a large number of client error downloading workunits between the 13th and 19th of July. 2 of my systems seem to have been badly hit, but not the others? Julian Rouse |

Yes, one of my systems was affected by many download errors. Its a Macos 10.3 ssystem. It is running boinc 4.13, another almost identical system is running 4.19 and is not affected.I will change the boinc version this evening (Paris local time). BTW, the problem was limited to 13-19 Jul, 4.13 should not be the only culprit... |

Boinc versions prior to 4.19 did not retry to download a WU after the connection was dropped. It would immediately report them as "Download Failed". Boinc changed it so that the WU would be retried and thus avoided all these D/L errors. AT any time there was a Seti outage, the older versions would see LOTS of D/L errors. |

I will check next time I am in school (as the machines are there) but I am pretty sure both machines as 4.19 or later. Looking in more detail it looks like a set of iffy work units as on many (but not all) other peoples machines are reporting the same error or generating 0.1 credit. looks like a bad tape to me. You can check what version the computers at school are running by viewing your computers and looking at the results. Of course we could help you more if your computers were not hidden. |

I also has some such results like http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/workunit.php?wuid=20981009 http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/workunit.php?wuid=21007612 http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/workunit.php?wuid=21007612 and a few more that exhibit the same problem. bell-chan |

I agree, unfortunately our ICT department would have a hissy fit if I unhid the computers, it was hard enough to get them to let me use them. Julian Rouse |

You do know that we cannot see any computer names, IP addresses etc.? All we can see is a description of the computer (CPU and operating system) plus what is of more meaning, which work units you downloaded and what possible errors they are returning when you have uploaded & reported them again. Just click on my name, look at my computers. What do you see? |

The same with me. My computers are not hidden. Just another source to verify that we will not get any info that could hurt you. Jim You do know that we cannot see any computer names, IP addresses etc.? |

I am aware that the data is probably not significant but I have an ICT department at school who lock computers down to the point where you are not allowed even as a teacher to install anything. To get SETI running on some of them I had to spend several months persuading them and then getting them to install. So the basic fact is they do not want me displaying info on the net. Not a lot I can do about it. Julian Rouse |

then, by all means, do as the ICT department requests. They are doing you a favor by letting you use their machines. No need crossing them and losing all that extra computer power. It would be helpful, if the web site allowed us to examine a users results, even when they have hidden their machines. |

The web site allows us to do that, if the user would link us to a work unit that has gone wrong. His name will then be shown as Anonymous. |

I just had my first failed wu downloads. They went to 'retry in' status so I hit retry now. They worked their way up to 100% and disappeared from the transfers tab as usual. My indication that there was a problem was the appearance of the red letter in on the BoincView tray icon. |

Copy and paste the page address of your result, like so http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/workunit.php?wuid=21533707 98SE XP2500+ @ 2.1 GHz Boinc v5.8.8 And God said"Let there be light."But then the program crashed because he was trying to access the 'light' property of a NULL universe pointer. |
