JIMMY DOOHAN...now there was a very talented man... as SCOTTY on STAR TREK...he made the tech of the future human enough to be desired in the here and now....many of the pioneers of the technology we take for granted...were inspired to create some of the things they did...by the the USS ENTERPRISE'S miracle worker engineer...who made it seem such a worthwhile thing to do.

"It was no tribble at all captain."
It takes a very good actor to deliver a line like that without blowing it.

I've always believed that some part of an actor's personality bubbles up through the character being played. In this way, we all knew Jimmy Doohan a little, and from what I saw, he was a man who I could appreciate. He will be missed.

James Doohan, AKA Scotty, is no longer among us. He passed this morning, at age 85, what a bummer. His wife just had a baby, not long ago. A lot of people went to college to become engineers, after being inspired by Scotty. I will miss him.

That's 2 now from the original series. DeForest Kelly, AKA Dr. McCoy, passed a few years ago.

Scotty was the ulimate miracle worker. He could always get the Enterprise out of danger.

Scotty has beamed to the Enterprise for the last time.... Take care, Mr. Doohan.... You will be greatly missed.... >:-(

Mr. Doohan's family are going to follow in the footsteps of Gene Roddenberry's, they will send his ashes into space.

.... To boldly go where no one has gone before....

James Doohan: March 3, 1920 - July 20, 2005

We are deeply saddened to report that James Doohan, the beloved actor who portrayed engineer "Montgomery Scott" in the original Star Trek and seven movies, has passed away. He was 85.

Doohan died in his sleep at his home in Redmond, Washington, at 5:30 a.m. local time with his wife Wende at his side. Cause of death was pneumonia, complicated by Alzheimer's disease, according to Doohan's agent and longtime friend Steve Stevens of Los Angeles.

Private services will be held in Redmond, but a public memorial will be held in Los Angeles on a date to be announced. According to Stevens, the family will fulfill Doohan's wish to have his remains shot into space on a "Memorial Spaceflight" provided by Space Services Inc. of Houston. Similarly, a portion of Gene Roddenberry's ashes were sent on such a flight in 1997. The date of cremation and of the spaceflight are not yet known.

Doohan is survived by his wife of 28 years, Wende, and their 5-year-old daughter Sarah, along with six adult children — Larkin, Deirdre, Chris, Montgomery, Eric and Thomas — and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The bottle of "green", that Scotty and Picard shared on the mockup of the Enterprise NCC-1701 in the Next Generation episode "Relics", was a type of Scotch Whiskey. I don't remember if it was revealed what type, someone else may know.

I rather fancy Romulan Ale.... >:-)
