Following the recent problem with uploading completed WUs I eventually transferred 14 I had completed. However, on checking my results on the web site the next day I notice that two of these have been granted 0.00 credit. Why, did my computer do no work in processing these? If it is because I took too long in returning them (4 days) then surely my credit should not be penalised due to the fault at the server end which caused the delay. |

If you check http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/sah_status.html you will see there are over 100,000 waiting for validation. There seems to be a large problem with the validators. That number is climbing, not going down... You are not alone in this. I have several waiting for validation, too. Let's hope they figure that one out soon! * Viking * |

That number is climbing, not going down... I understand and accept that but my query is in regard to two which have now been validated being granted 0.00 credit not those others which are still waiting (except that the worry is that they too will be granted zero credit). For example: 87363183 20830911 17 Jul 2005 20 Jul 2005 Over Success Done 12,952.85 32.32 0.00 |

I just checked that one, and as you see, there are a lot of DL-errors. If a WU has to many (that's 8) errounous results, it will be considered as faulty, and nobody will get credit. Unfortunately in times like these, they occure quite often. They are caused by the outdated Boinc-client 4.13, which imho should not be allowed to get any work any more. It was broken in just this aspect, and the fix is in the client since 4.19. There have been complaints about it, and I don't know why the project still hasn't stopped the sending of WUs to those machines. Perhaps the immediate transition issues are more pressing atm. Many thanks for the explanation but bloody annoying all the same. I looked at the machine you linked too and cannot understand why someone would keep using such a dodgy version of the client given his failure rate. As you say perhaps the "way ahead" is for the server to refuse DLs to those running old and unstable versions of the client. Yeah, OK so some may decide to quit rather than upgrade but would the loss be much given their present failure rate? I think not and any such would likely be (more than) compensated for by the increase in throughput from those who do update their client. |

From what I understand, credits aren't necessarily granted until other users who were assigned that work unit also report their results, or the deadline comes up. I could be wrong, of course... If I am correct, then the massive backlog waiting for validation will put a big delay on getting the credit granted. Over 400,000 now. I sure hope someone is looking into this little issue... My total credit hasn't gone up in a while, and I have uploaded several in the last few days. Aha... should have noticed this earlier. If you go to http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/results.php?userid=(put your user id number here) you will likely see what's up. I have a whole pile of "granted" credits pending. 16, to be precise. * Viking * |

I have a whole pile of "granted" credits pending. 16, to be precise. I know how many I have outstanding, awaiting credit. As I said before this was never the question. The answer to why I was given 0.00 credit for 2 WUs was given above. Essentially it is because some people are using an old buggy version of the client and their errors cause the WU to be binned and therefore those who did actually complete it get given zero credit. Not IMHO very satisfactory but that's the way it is. |
