That's true! I was able to upload 5 WUs this morning so there is a difference - still many to go. I guess it'll take a while before we're back to normal ul/dl rates since the preasure is hard on the servers at the moment.

I'm waiting for the new hardware to be listed on the server status page. I hope they can get it up there soon.

It is the same class of machine as galileo.

It was the one that was recently donated to S@H, so we didn't have to sack any of the remaining classic hardware. :)

COOL!

thank you Rom for taking the time to answer this question.

I'm sure all of you are busy, but if you have a few minutes could you explain what the new hardware will be doing? If this is going to be posted in the tech news I can wait.

One old dusty Compaq 386, 128MB EDO, a 400MB harddrive, 3.5" floppy drive, 2x CD,
Realtek 10Mbit LAN, generic VESA VGA card, 14 inch monitor. ;)

My thanks to all the Boinc/Seti developers and also to whoever donated the new hardware. Great to see data flowing again at a decent rate.

Thanks Rom for the info also.

The new machine just handles the uploads of the result files and downloads of the workunits.

The scheduler is handled on galileo.

Once the scheduler gets the pass/fail data, it is passed to the validator.

For those who are familiar with Solaris load averages, the machine is averaging 80 and spikes to 200 every 10-15 minutes.

Thank you, hardworking people at Berkeley computing labs. It'll still take a while I guess for the almost 1.8 million units to clear. (1,749,936 units... I was close, guessing it this afternoon ;))

@Rom, is Beta using this same server for its uploads?

Just a test post. I just reset my project because of all the retry's. Looked like none of the results were being uploaded and there was a message saying the project may need to be reset. Do you lost the results when you do that?

Yes, if the results haven't uploaded before you reset, you lose them.

What version of BOINC are you running? You may want to consider upgrading to at least the currently recommended CC.

@ Rom

Can you speak to the errors on the exchange between the ul/dl server and the client computers mentioned in this thread by gregg??

Thanks

Patience pays ;) And as downloading wasn't a problem, even those who only run SETI@home didn't run dry ;) There's just a small delay in the "payback" ;)
