What if everybody disables BOINC connectivity to "unstress" SETI's Servers... I'm just guessing it might help...

some poeple can't easily disable network access ...
some have more hosts in network environment and are running boinc as service there ...
such a service is (or better should) be maintenance-less .. so they just lunch it and don't care anymore (as far at it doesn't interfere with the hosts original purpose)
and it would only delay the problem by some time since you need to connect and deliver your results...
getting the problem at the root is the motto 'cause work-arounds mostly have side-effects ;)

Just trust in the seti team to clean it up ;) (and it seems they rediscovered how to post news ;))

Then how is Seti going to test the stains on their system? Right now is a good testing situation for them.

BTW: If no one has seen, they left their same message from yesterday up on the home page, and just changed the date.

It would be nearly impossible to get everybody to do this, first, because not everyone pays attention to any news source (front page, technical news, these boards) and even if everyone could be contacted, many would not do it for various reasons. If Berkeley wants to try this, it would be easier for them to disconnect and let their various servers run. They may have already done this.

a good solution to reduce network traffic would be to only contact after every (contact every x days)/10
or so ...
so we would have a 'connect at max every x hours' that way wu up-/downloading would be in bulks
and if a upload fails with a not-wu-specific error, maybe delay all other uploads too (same for download)

but as far as i remember that discussion allready came up last year or so ...

Nope not exactly.
They changed the last sentence slightly:
original (18.):

There are several parts to making this work and, barring any show stoppers, we hope to have it online in the next couple of days.

today:

There are several steps to getting a new machine online but, barring any show stoppers, we hope to have it online in the next day or so.
