Not everybody has a top-class PC. They are always at the limit for the report deadline. If the upload will not start working in the next days (it has problems since one week) many contributors will report their results too late...

They will see their perfect valid results, terminated within the time limit, granted no credit at all

And then, hell will open!!!

Let the gates be open then. As its been discussed in previous threads, SETI is still in "testing" phases, so theres going to be problems. Nothing is 100% perfect. Computers are not 100% perfect. Some results are getting through as some have said again in other threads, and most are not. And those that won't get credit, yeah, they will complain, but as its been said, those WU's will come back out eventually. Yeah, many will say "Geez, all this time that my computer spent went down the drain, I won't get no credit for all that work." I say, oh well, it happens, its happend before, and chances are, it will happen again. Something that we have to live with here. Just my 2 cents, so fire away.

Being at the limit has nothing to do with the class of the PC. It has to do with how large a cache people maintain. Mine is only a few days and I have no worries yet about missing any deadlines. Results get through every once in awhile. As long as the downloads keep coming so I can keep processing I have no problems.

Of all the stupid statements I have read on this forum, that has to be the winner. It does not matter what cache people maintain if the crunching time is one day over the limit on a particular machine/project combination.

Be lucky

'Fraid I may have a too laid -back attitude ref. the uploading probs.

But as far as I'm concerned, I'm keeping a very small cache of WUs.
And I'm not 'clogging' the system by 'forcing' the uploads.
I have other projects to keep my CPU busy......

Let the guys at Berkeley sort out the probs. without any extra pressure
from us 'crunchers'. (As far as I'm aware, they are, after all, volunteers!)

I'm as patient as any man, but this new system sucks! I was crunching seti units without a problem for 5 years until I updatad my processor and switched over. I have been trying to crunch seti units for 5 weeks now, but it will download one only in it's own sweet time. For the past 2 weeks it keeps telling me that I've reached my 1 unit quota for the day. As far as I know all the units it has trickled to my PC have been worked and results uploaded (until this weekend). Now it sits with no units to crunch since Friday because I've reached my 1 unit per day quota! Okay, so there may be a problem this weekend, but this whole system is too buggy to waste time on. I've considered going back to the CLASSIC SETI, but what use if this new system is typical of the program?

Sorry Ron, something must've gone wrong somewhere. You've been missing deadlines.
3 on the 9th of July, 5 on the 11th, 4 on the 16th, one on the 17th and 2 on the 18th. Due to some error in the server software someplace, missing a deadline doesn't drop your quota by one anymore, it drops you to one unit a day.

Yet for each unit returned correctly, your quota goes up, until you lose a deadline again (for whatever reason, may be totally beyond your fault, just getting the Ghost WUs.). Then you're back at one unit a day and have to start all over again.

Nothing that can be done about that, until the error's been found and dealt with.

Guilty as charged! In the beginning when I saw the message "...exited with zero status but no 'finished' file...If this happens repeatedly you may need to reset the project." I read the "may need to" as "must" and dutifully reset the project. Then I learned that this was a no-no, that some units would be lost (they must be the ones timing out). So I quit doing that. Still, the 1 quota for the day kept following me...

I'll try to be patient...a while longer...

It does matter a lot how big a persons cache is. The longer a WU sits in a cache waiting to be processed lowers the amount of time it has to be uploaded and validated.

If it sits in the que waiting to be processed for 14 days, then it has no time to be uploaded.
