Just a thought. Many classic users complain that they are going to lose their classic totals because they don't have the original e-mail address available and don't know their original SETI password. Currrently, to activate your account you mst have either the e-mail or the password which is reasonable for security reasons. But it got me looking around in an old SETI classic folder. I see that there is a user_info.sah file that contains fields 'ID' and 'Key'. Wondering if it would be possible to use one of these bits of information (which all classic users can find) for account activation? |

I see that there is a user_info.sah file that contains fields 'ID' and 'Key'. No, they aren't usable for this purpose. |

I kind of fell into this situation. I had no idea what the password I had was and the email account I used had been cancelled for a couple of years. I found, suprisingly, that alot of companies leave email adresses in their systems because they cant reissue them I suspose. I was able to put my account info into outlook express and actually check my email, can still today. Although I can't send from the account I can have old information sent to it and retrieve it. This may help some people but not all I'm sure. |

I have heard of some people buing the domain that their old email addresses were on and setting up an email account for it. Of course this only works if the domain has been dropped by whoever used to own it. Some have also had luck emailing the admin of the system and having them forward the seti email. Not as handy but it has worked :) A member of The Knights Who Say NI! For rankings, history graphs and more, check out: My BOINC stats site |
