I'm just venting....

Almost exactly two weeks ago boinc went crazy and downloaded about 500 wu, almost none of which my little notebook would be able to complete. This was given a term, something like ghost units, by somegbody in the know on this message board, who also indicated it was a known, but etherial issue. Nevertheless, today they are timing out and boinc spanked me by lowering the download limit to 1 per day. I wouldn't care, except the notebook produces about 12 wu per day and my near-zero queue will not refill before Monday's dredded shutdown.

Boinc rules! (has more than one meaning)

Why do you use not a notebook available in 3 years? This one would do 12 WUs per hour...

To solve your "bad situation", wait or just detach and reattach to the projet;)
This will create a new host entry (merge later) but the daily quota will be fresh set.

BTW why attach is written with 2 "t" and detach only with 1 "t"?

strange english rules..

It's probably not as bad as it seems.
As soon as you return 1 good WU, your limit will double - so after 1 good WU, your limit will be 2, after 2 good WUs 4, after 3 it's 8 and so on. After 8 returns, you limit will be back to the usual 100.
This should happen quickly as there is no current transitioner delay.

/edit
BTW, I speak from experience, it happened to me on June 30th.
IIRC, my full quota was restored in about 10 hours (1hr10m/WU)
And that was with significant backlogs.

Thanks, Mike, I hope you are right. But having just spent a few days in Texas, I'm ready for a vacation and will leave the notebook at home.

ric, I have no idea why English is what it is, except it is a merger of French, Latin, Nordic, and so on. It could be worse: American English merges the rest of the worlds languages and a few invented on the streets, it seems.

Cheers.

I was down to only one also. But, today I returned one or two and am back up to 8 ... so, just a phase we have to go through. The idea is to "spank" the bad client computers that were just downloading thousands of Wu and immediately erroring them out.

It looks worse than it is ... I still have a pretty long list of work that will be expiring the next couple days so, I expect to be back down to one again in a little bit. But I have a few cached and if not SETI, Einstein or Predictor will have work.

I have seen a T-Shirt which says something to the effect of:

English, it doesn't borrow from any language, it steals what it needs.

So on that thought, may you too can add two fish to a hot pot of water and call it soup.

Not really. You "tach" something "at" = "attach" ..
So you then detach when undoing it.

"At" being a prefix.

I think the point was that language is not entirely logical.

Can you interpret this... ?

Ok, my quota went from 1/d to 2/d to 4/d to 8/d to 1/d to 2/d to 4/d to 1/d. I'm afraid this nonsense will go on until my 500 unrequested wu get purged from the seti beast. That is, what ever triggers my spankings, must be triggered every time the transitioner (shall we call it the Royal High Executioner?) sees that I have some more expired wu's to purge. In any event, I will not have enough units to crunch through this week's power shutdown (any bets it is greater than 17h???)

Well, My G5 is back to 64 per day, but I am going to take a hit again on the 13th and 14th ... but, it is unfortunate that you are going to get hit in the cross-fire. Sad to say, it is likely to be more than 17 hours, and a week or more to recovere from the outage.

Then again, I console myself with lots of Einstein@Home and Predictor@Home work in solace of my sorrows ...
