I'm currently running SETI on a 128 node (256 CPU) Opteron Grid.

If I merge all of the compute nodes that are showing in my Computer List into 1 entry will that only change the way the stats are reported on the website or does it also affect the way jobs are distributed to my machines ?

Your hosts will split apart again if active. Merge is for correcting the case where one computer is reported several times for one reason or another. It is not for merging several real active hosts into one.
