Are you talking about RAM? If you already have 1Mb of RAM are you sure you need more? More RAM won't necessarily allow SETI to run faster.

Help and BOINC documentation is available here.

Motherboards with updateable cache havn't existed for a very long time..
Cache is built-on the CPU chip itsself. There is no way to buy add-on cache, it's a whole new CPU if you want bigger cache.
OTH, if you are talking about main memory then it depends how much you already have, probably between 256Mb and 1Gb.
If you only have 256Mb, then in general increasing the RAM will improve the system 'response' but won't significantly improve its 'speed'.
If you already have 512Mb or more, then unless you run a lot of programs with high memory requirements, you will gain very little.

In the old days, L2 cache was a separate SIMM you could install, the CPU would use it. But these days, cache only comes on die. Meaning it's built in on the CPU. L1 and L2 cache, some Intels have even got L3 cache (for gaming I understand).

So you can't buy extra cache RAM. Your P4 has 1MB of L2 cache, that'll be enough for now. If you want more cache, you buy a better CPU. It's as simple as that.
