Not by much unless that is an Intel CPU with HT and you run two instances.

(A good question is whether it is worth running two instances in any case on any CPU if you have >1MByte CPU cache...)

Good luck,
Martin

yes i run p4 intelat 3.2 ghz with hyperthreading but i set my preferences:total cpu's used to 1 if i set it to 2 it runs sluggish.i take it ht is an alternative to having two actual cpu's? thanks martin

HT is an Intel kludge to overcome resource bottlenecks and stalling problems in the very deep pipelines used in the P4.

In simple terms, HT makes the one CPU core 'look like' two CPUs. Doing this, you reduce the overall response very slightly, but you can gain upto +30% in overall performance (provided the limited CPU cache doesn't get thrashed).

For s@h, HT means you can run two WUs at the same time. Each WU takes longer to run, but you get two 'simultaneously'. Hence, you get through more WUs per day.

On the Intel P4, enable and use HT. For s@h it is very worthwhile.

Good luck,
Martin

(Anyone noticed that shift-p shift-4 gives "P$"! :O )
