For those of you having trouble getting the BOINC command client to install as a service on Windows 2000, here is a solution: 1) If you tried installing the BOINC command client using the boinc_cli -install method, reboot your PC before trying this. 2) Go to Start Button, Run, then type regedt32 and hit Enter 3) Navigate to the following registry key in Regedt32: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE-SYSTEM-ControlSet001-Enum-Root (the forum won't let me backslashes) 4) Highlight the 'Root' key, then at the top of the window click 'Security' then click 'Permissions' 5) In the 'Permissions for Root' window that opens, highlight user 'Everyone' (should already be highlighted by default), then check the box 'Full Control'. Click OK and close Regedt32. 6) Download my BOINC registry keys HERE (NOTE: These reg keys ONLY WORK if BOINC is installed to its default location, c:-program files-BOINC) 7) Double click on all four reg key sets in order to import them into your registry. 8) Reboot your PC. After you computer reloads, the BOINC command client should be installed as a service (and it should also already be running as well!) I tested this method on two Windows 2000 PC's that wouldn't install the BOINC service using any other method. It worked both times. Let me know if anyone has difficulty using this method. <a> |
