"The guy from White House advance, during the initial meetings, said, 'Be careful not to let this become a pep rally'," Captain Earnhardt recalled ......reporters on ABC, NBC and Fox News noted that the only round of applause during the speech was initiated by Bush staffers. lot's of talk about the stage managing, little of substance on the speech particulars..... Note on the critical reaction to Bush's speech....... and, a very concise look into the reasons behind the stage managed public opinion aspects of the speech. You will be fed what they think you should eat, ........(...or at the very least, ...what they think is digestable by you.....), .....no more.... and no less. 'Catapult the propaganda'...? .... |

Again with the TinyURL redirects. Why are you hiding your links, Paul? You might find me a bit of any ally on your political front. I will NOT be duped into looking at URLs which I can not inspect before clicking. Many people feel that way these days. Surely, you of all people can comprehend that paranoia. You're the one who was afraid of subjecting your own Mac to the Seti project, non? Stop it with the TinyURL links. Let people see what they're clicking on. TinyURL offers you NO advantage here, save for hiding where folks might be going to. It would be LESS WORK for you to NOT use TinyURL. Please stop using TinyURL. |

teragram, Some time back, there were some complaints made about my posting long URLs..... It was offered or suggested to me that I use the TIny URL conversions to alleviate having long and broken URLs. Maybe that particular problem has been fixed or changed through some changes to the board... ....maybe Tiny URLs don't have the advantages they once had, ......I don't know... couldn't really say. I got in the habit of using them and I have to say they have some advantages... such as, normally they won't stretch a thread. (.....I hear that's bad manners.... stretching a thread.) If you are afraid that I may be using some nefarious trick to cause you some kind of harm.... don't click the link. I can only assure you that I would not direct you to anything that would not be available on any other major news site or regular media outlet.... I don't link to trick web sites. Probably just Googling the lede to the articles will land you on the same link as I post. I will link to newspapers, tv, and other media outlets.... nothing to be afraid of.... that devious kind of thing you fear is some other's type of game.... not something I do. If you believe all the mischaracterizations and lies about what I may do.... well, that's for you to decide. In the meantime, be not afraid.... your fear will not be realized by a link I post. You might see a concept or idea that may challenge someone's belief, but not dirty tricks through devious links... not the kind of thing I participate in..... |

It may be possible that you will never know how I received the privilege to post here... I could care less if you do or don't...... Knock yourself out, ..... try holding your breath... I find it amusing to watch you twist and squirm.... (I imagine that community service being served in lieu of jail time, eh?.... ) |

You really would make a great politician PZ. I have never come across anyone that can double-talk, spin, dance around an issue, backpedal and place themselves as the victim, all at the same time mind you, while putting forth a long speech just to say what could have been said in one sentence, "I'm not changing how I do things". To truly explore, one must keep an open mind... |

I gave that a try, long ago,...... The questions still persist...... Some few don't seem to comprehend, so explanations are offered on the level they are formulated on..... ....simple. You seem to spend an inordinant amount of time concerned with my personal life... ......seems like an aberration of sorts to me..... .......do you ever address thread topics? That's usually why there is a thread topic, you know, |

Bush Comments On Justice O’Connor Resignation Justice Sandra Day O´Connor, the first woman appointed to the Supreme Court said Friday she is retiring. O’Connor has been a key swing vote on issues such as abortion and the death penalty and other social issues. President Bush announced today in the Rose Garden that he would not make an appointment today which day he said would be left to honor O’Connor. Bush said he will ask his staff to present names that might replace O’Connor and that he would be talking to the U.S. Senate before the nomination process. ( 'talking' to the Senate' ......that means arm twisting, threats and inducements to begin anon) Just imagine if Rhenquist goes too..... all your rights may be for naught, eh? I expect this will be typically ugly in the coming weeks.... |

Yes Paul... It is gonna be ugly, all right. There are WAY too many 'our-ism vs. their-ism's at stake for it to go quietly. Left vs Right... Moderate vs. Radical... Liberal vs. Conservative... Pro-Abortion vs. Pro-Life... Republican vs. Democrat (like this one has much meaning anymore... may as well argue about Blue vs. Red)... Strict-constructionists vs. followers of the 'necessary & proper' and 'interstate commerce' clauses... Judical Activists vs. Judical Restraint... States Rights vs. Federalists... the list of these goes on and on and on, ad nauseum. No matter WHO Dubya nominates, people on at least one side (and maybe both sides) of each of these debates are going to be all over the nominee like gravy on grits. So yes, its gonna be U.G.L.Y. And no matter who (eventually) gets confirmed for this seat (and the next one likely to open up this year)... there will be no winners, and the entire country will be the loser. The festering hatred that this (these) confirmation battle(s) will stir up on both sides won't go away for years, if not decades... When Justice O'Conner announced her retirement, we (the nation) lost. https://youtu.be/iY57ErBkFFE #Texit Don't blame me, I voted for Johnson(L) in 2016. Truth is dangerous... especially when it challenges those in power. |

Agreed. As to the rest of your concerns about division and rancor.... I'm not so defeatist as you seem to be... We, as a nation have shown the ability to rise above our differences in the past and I think that can be attained once more... Education and political will can evolve to overcome the obstacles put in their path.... One thing we both probably agree on, ......it won't happen overnight. |

You may have a point... but your statement "it won't happen overnight" is VERY, VERY true. The rest, however is open to at least a small amount of debate... You, in my opinion, are correct about 'rising above' in the past. However, right now, with the circumstances in WashDC, I just don't see it happening... Especially over something as important as a vacancy on the Supreme Court of the US... However, I would be happy to be proved wrong on this point (by events over the next several weeks). https://youtu.be/iY57ErBkFFE #Texit Don't blame me, I voted for Johnson(L) in 2016. Truth is dangerous... especially when it challenges those in power. |

....when I employed the use of the cliche, 'overnight', it was assumed by me that the time period specified would be longer than a few weeks also. The divisions are deep, and mostly based on misunderstandings, as far as I can tell. Most people with differences, when they allow themselves to see behind the curtain of the divisive rhetoric, hold similar or 'acceptable' common values.... People have to be open to the realities surrounding them and filter out the rhetoric.... Examples are everywhere..... the majority, (mostly silent still), I think are aware of the differences and can filter out the untruths and partisan snipings. When the will of that majority makes itself heard, the ideologues will be denied their bias. That will of the majority will assert itself again, it will probably take a considerable 'event' to make it coalesce, but that's our history, that's the pattern shown to us through historic events. I have faith in that common American to assert their will again. |

He did run for local political office in Alaska. HE LOST! I think it was his dirty mudslinging campaign that did him in. |
