1) I think each project client should have a way to execute a work unit benchmark from the BOINC Manager GUI. It should simply report the elapsed time in seconds it took to complete a reference WU for a project.

2) I think each project should automatically distribute optimized clients based on the users CPU and OS type. The BOINC system knows this information for each user’s machine, so it should be able to do this. It seems that optimized clients provide a significant increase in throughput. This should be considered and win-win situation for everyone; the projects get more science and the users get more credit in a given about of time.

I would prefer this as well, although I know it's been discussed before. As an only-user I acn't tell you about the real pros and cons, but one con is of course the increase of benchmarking time (once per project, not once per puter) that's been derived from the science.
But I don't think it's too much, if this 'test-WU' is small enough.

Good idea, but there has to be another flag somewhere in the GUI/command line to let the project know whether you want graphics, or even optimize more.
I don't care here @Seti, they dont show me that much, but I like them @Einstein, CPDN and Folding.

For questions about Boinc look in the BOINC-Wiki

I run BOINC as a service. So I just want it to run without graphics in the background accumulating credits, and science, as efficiently as my specific computer(s) can. My four computers are always on.
