First, let me say, I have been a contributor to SETI processing for 6 years now, with over 10,000 units processed through SETI Driver and the command line processor (setiathome-3.03.i386-winnt-cmdline.exe).

I have been trying repeatedly for the last two days to download the new BOINC software and cannot get the download to complete. (My connection type is dial-up.) The furthest the download has gotten is 2.3MB of the 6+MB download. After a long delay, the download says it is complete, but it isn't. I've been experiencing similar problems with incomplete downloads of workunits in the old SETI processor as well.

I run Windows XP SP2 with all of the latest updates and AOL 9.0 for my browser. I've also tried it with IE but the result is the same. Do I need to be doing something differently to get it to download?

From everything I read so far in the Q&A, and the difficulty I am having just trying to download it, I am really beginning to ask myself "Why am I even considering this?"

Thanks,
SQAGuru (SETI user name)

Hello and welcome.

I'm on DSL, so I don't have this restrictions, but if it fails, try the 4.19 client (1.7MB). Many are still crunching with it. And if you want to stay exclusivly @Seti, it'll do for some time.

But as it's been no problem for other users on dial-up, it seems to be a problem on your puter/ISPs side. Perhaps someone else can help you with that problems.

Happy crunching!

Thank you for your rapid response. I tried your suggestion to download the older version. Unfortunately, that download won't complete either.

I don't believe it is my system or my ISP because I have successfully downloaded 43MB and 48MB files from other websites in the past two days (in between my attempts to download BOINC).

So I still need assistance/advice.

I've just tried, and got 'em both.
But here's an alternative for the older version, as CPDN has it's owm DL-area:

That's all I can offer you.

C'm on geeks, show up and help ;)

Someone could try to send you a copy by email if you wished. We can't see your eamial address, so you will have to post it here if you want. Of course, you should obfuscate it a bit - j at x dot com seems to work nicely.

Have you tried a download manager that supports resuming?

I use GetRight, and it has saved me quite a bit of time with downloads failing/timing out. (although I haven't had a problem with BOINC downloads)

The first thing I'd do is run a complete virus scan and a spyware/adware scan.
