What Do These Credits Mean?

Can anyone give me a simple, clear and concise explanation of what credits symbolise or represent. This is my only criticism of BOINC, the old system where number of workunits completed was so much simpler. Life on earth is the global equivalent of not storing things in the fridge. |

It is an indication of how much effort was put into the science being done. The problem with 1WU = 1 credit is that not all WUs are created equal. S@H BOINC can short circuit a very noisy WU in as little as 5 minutes, and it is the belief of the developers and at least some of the crunchers that these 5 minute WUs should not count for as much as a WU that took several hours to process.
