Hi.
I posted in a thread, that has been hidden by the admins... Now I wonder, how many threads have been hidden this way and for what purpose.

Happy crunching,

The only purpose I can imagine is to comply with the forum rules.
Without knowing the content of the thread/your post, it's not possible to tell.
Of course, it could be just some foul-up in the board.

As I remember, there were some links to seti beta test site. Could it be, that was the reason?

Humm, the 'Seti Beta' thread is still there. Is it another?
Or was it just your post that went?

Hiding of threads is these boards way of closing/locking a thread. Since the forums aren't capable of locking a thread, like in phpBB or vBulletin, they are completely hidden if things go out of hand or the thread starter requests his thread be locked.

There've been quite a few threads hidden in the past. Mostly them by trolls, consistent flamers etc.

I see... Well this thread was about TMR optimizing the enhanced seti client or was it 4.18? Nevermind... I wonder what might have gone wrong in that thread (since there still is "Seti beta" thread intact).

Maybe the powers that be don't want people to optimize the beta client. :)

Hehe... I doubt that, as it was all about TMR being granted access to these sources (and building linux app with them) and AndyK and me asking TMR if he would build windows version... After that, I don't know, because it (the thread) went into hiding. :D

Happy crunching,

I remember that Rom has asked TMR to move thread to seti_beta part ... And promissed to remove the thread here.

4.18 is a new-generation application that gives quite different results. It is not desirable to run that application in production. I guess they'll announce the availability when they decide to throw the switch for official client.

BTW, the sources are not hidden at all, I just downloaded the public-cvs tarball and the sources are 4.18. It's just that the results won't validate until this one becomes the official client version.

The message board on the seti beta site still isn't working. Maybe they are preparing one and posted it improperly, then quickly removed it.

TMR has sent emails requesting the code to the new "Enhanced" CC (see boinc DEV mail list). They don't seem to be objecting to letting him work on it.

Metod,

I am completely puzzled by this post. Don't your contradict this:

From http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/
June 22, 2005
We have released setiathome application version 4.18 for windows and macintosh.
Graphics are now available for the macintosh. The windows release fixes an ATI
graphics bug.

Also, TMR says 4.18 is not different from 4.11 in regards to computation here:

We released an update to the non-enhanced client yesterday, it had the new ability to display graphics on platforms other than Windows. We were able to release the Mac version of it as well yesterday. We are still working on Linux and Solaris.

The SETI@Home enhanced client is what is being tested in Beta, that client is twice as sensitive to signals as the previous generation of clients. It increases CPU time by roughly 40%. It is not ready to be run in the public project yet. People running it are likely to run into validation errors against those who are running the non-enhanced client.

When the enhanced client is ready, it'll be brought into the public project as a whole new application, and the non-enhanced client will be phased out over the course of a few weeks.

I just asked TMR to move the previous thread over to the Beta forums so that people would understand that running that client in the public project would cause problems.

Great, but there are no forums over there.

Cool,

Alas I get the following error msg on the beta project forums:

Unknown column 'sticky' in 'order clause'

Okay, I think i've fixed the forum issues.

I might have introduce an issue or two in the process, but I've already called Eric and he should be able to fix them before anything too bad happens.

Like Neil and Rocky with zero posts. It'll be okay once they start posting though. :)

Thanks Rom, for enabling the forums. It's way easier for us to post our issues there than constantly traveling to the dev_list.
