When I begin the screensaver (I have BOINC 4.43, Mac OS 10.4.1, running only SETI@Home), it says "Connecting to BOINC application…", then pauses for a second, and goes to "BOINC is currently suspended.". What's going on? I have the application open and running, with the "Manager" window minimized. I've clicked the "Suspend" button, then clicked it again when it changed to say "Resume" in an attempt to get it unsuspended. How do I fix this?

The button should say suspend. If it says resume, then the app is suspended. If says suspend, then the app is running.

It says "Suspend".

Yeh, so Mac support is sorely lacking. What you need to do to get the screensaver working (and it says this nowhere I've seen) is open Boinc manager, go to the (B) boinc menu (right side of bar) and select "Run Always"- e.g. whenever Boinc is open, be calculating something. If you run based on prefs, my guess is that your screensaver setup (Boinc is a bona-fide Desktop & Screensaver control panel screensaver for those who missed it) launches Boinc after your set screensaver activation time, then Boinc leaves all jobs suspended until it clocks your specified delay time from your online Boinc preferences.

This seems like poor design since most folks will want to run Boinc SETI like regular SETI and let the computing happen all the time in screensaver mode or in a more controlled fashion when the application is opened manually.

Once the screensaver is set up properly, you may still have the issue of the screensaver twitching in then giving the scrolling text "BOINC is no longer running in screensaver mode", but that's an issue I have yet to find a fix for.
