ROCKET RIDE (the old pilot)

if i could i would take a rocket ship and fly
to mars or some other destination in the sky
i just know that i'm meant to go
though it seems sometimes i've been before
but my mind is foggy about those days
when i was a child and could dream in space
mom and dad don't seem to remember at all
about the trip i took when i was small
i want to get back and see again
the sights i must have seen back then
in whispered tones the men in suits did say
you can never reveal that he's been in space
so no one knows except for me
about the rocket ship with the silver seats
and the lady who told me not to cry
we're just going on a rocket ride
though i am older no longer a child
yesterdays history still has to hide
but inside my heart will always stay
the dream of once again flying away

Henry Constable

[My lady's presence makes the roses red]

My lady's presence makes the roses red,
Because to see her lips they blush for shame.
The lily's leaves, for envy, pale became,
And her white hands in them this envy bred.
The marigold the leaves abroad doth spread,
Because the sun's and her power is the same.
The violet of purple colour came.
Dyed in the blood she made my heart to shed.
In brief: all flowers from her their virtue take;
From her sweet breath their sweet smells do proceed;
The living heat which her eyebeams doth make
Warmeth the ground and quickeneth the seed.
The rain, wherewith she watereth the flowers,
Falls from mine eyes, which she dissolves in showers.

Little Miss Muffet sat on her tuffet
(and what a big tuffet she had!)
So if you feel insecure, sit next to her,
and then you won't feel quite as bad.

Bakerman

Baker man is baking bread
Sagabona kunjani wena
The night train is coming
Got to keep on running
Baker man is baking bread
Baker man is baking bread
You've got to cool down
Take it easy
You've got to cool down
Relax take it easy
Slow down relax
(repeat)

It's too late to worry
Slow down take it easy

Message 125812 - Posted: 21 Jun 2005, 0:15:02 UTC

I posted this at Classic about 20 months ago:

I have a little SETI farm,
I check it every day.
Looking for gaussians, pulses and spikes,
Searching for Vulcans, ET and the likes,
My wife thinks that it’s just play.

Back in the May of ‘99
My one computer did just fine.
I used the screensaver, they call it a GUI,
The critics said this was all just fluff and hooey,
Wasting our CPU time.

Using CLI since ‘02,
Do I get fast results? Yes (whew)!
I still don’t belong to a big crunching team
‘Cause I like saying I finished on my own steam,
But maybe in SETI-2.

Now I use six PC machines;
Blank the monitors so it’s more green.
There are three of my own (shh, and three from my work
The IT folks there think I’m being a jerk).
From viruses, though, I’m clean.

Queue daily units (one score and two),
Send them off to the Berkeley crew.
Hope my submission shows contact from space
(Knowing this work isn’t really a race) . . .
Anyway, you saw it too.

Now I’ve done, oh, 12,000 plus
(Please, don’t anyone make a fuss),
I’ll download my (color) certificate
And someday, somebody might look at it,
And that will just make me blush.

NEW VERSE:

Now I’m at BOINC and I’m plugging along.
Sometimes at the Cafe I’ll break into song!
My team (Synergy) is fun, I guess,
We all complain when the servers are a mess,
But we’re mostly glad we belong.

i wrote this a few months ago...after having an armegeddon type dream.

"AWAY, AWAY"

the storm is coming
away, away
the mountains warn us
away, away
the time is over
away, away
it's time for running
away, away

the stars are falling
away, away
no surrender
away, away
the oceans boiling
away, away
it's time to remember
away, away
-------------------------------------
btw...the ET'S in the dream did not appear to be friendly

Dan this one kinda sucks!

Away Away with it.

Confusion

The only time it doesn't matter is when we hear our children's laughter,
then we know why we're here if only for a moment, it's all clear.

That was good, CR, but I just have a little doggie (no kids) so I can't imagine the clarity children would bring.

P.S. I liked Dan's dream-inspired poem also, despite what the Captain thinks. How often I have awaken in the middle of the night with flashes of pure genius, then in the morning wished I had written down the thought, which is gone . . .

Boy I feel Bad, Oh my!
I thought that I had
Giving My Opine
About the Poem
That Burr would spur
Only after I do
Burr would skew
and the Freeper said
It was a keeper!

Jeeze, Cap'n! You made Dan feel so bad he deleted his post! Now, you go apologize to him right now. (Being an artistic type yourself, you must know how easy it is to be slighted.)

Oh cripy don't get me going on this stuff......
I really did not mean to insult you at all
sometimes my warped sense of humor gets me in trouble.

I told mty ex 2nd wife she had more cents than me and holy crap
what an argument. It took me several days to get laid again...

Back to the prose.....

Confusion
Time here is short, for life for death is part of the illusion.
We're born, we live our lives with or without meaning, we wake, we
dream, does it really mean anything, yes we say, no we say our
opinions change every day.
Who put us here? why? what for? these are the questions we must
ask, we must explore.
The only time it doesn't matter is when we hear our children's laughter,
then we know why we're here if only for a moment, it's all clear.

CR

CR,
I must say you hit the mark here. You may have just wrote it, however your words say you live it.
Very well said my Friend!

Respectfully,

Rocky

If you're strange at heart yet not completely full of (sh)it,
You're a welcome member of the team with real spirit,
Which others on here can't pass by without sneer,
Join us at The Final Front Ear.

Yet if you're weird and smelling of old socks,
Or you're old and wise and think it's bollocks,
Please go join that silly team Spread Firefox.

...

Sorry Dan, I couldn't resist. :)
