Notebook hibernation

Have I lost work? Any downside? I've often seen this message when another program crash or in someway freezes the CPU. It's never caused any real problem to BOINC as far as I can tell. Have I lost work? Any downside? I get the same thing after coming back from hibernate or suspend on my laptop. Been doing it that way for years, over three different laptops, with no problems.
