Hi,

in my client I can see 5 WUs ready to crunch or crunching already. However, on the computer results page there are 11 WUs listed as "In Progress" ( http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/results.php?hostid=633575 ). The results from June 12th and 13th, the days with the outages, are far below my usual average and I had the client running as usual. I believe my client sent the finished WUs and they got lost. Can they be recovered or are they completely lost?

It's not too bad since this is only one day's work, but out of curiosity I'd like to know if there is a backup system for these cases.

Thanks!

Yep!

When they blow past the deadline and no answer comes back and a quorum has not formed, they get issued again. Tons more about the whole thing, but I have to threaten you with "you have to read the manual ..."

A fate worse than death for most ...

Paul,

the deadline for the lost WUs is June 25th, 10 days from now. I DID read the manual...

Martin, I suppose if you use the word lost to mean you will never process those particular WUs, then that is true. Yet in a truer sense, nothing is lost, the science will still be done.
BOINC thinks it has sent them to you, you have just not recieved them. In around 14 days, BOINC will work-out that you havn't returned them for some reason or other (it doesn't care why) and re-issue them - that is if it hasn't already got a valid quorum from the other 3 it sent and closed the result.
You won't get any credit, but then you didn't do any work either.

From my own observatinos, it seems that this ca happen if there are server / scheduler problems or even network problems somewhere between you and berkeley...

Your client asks for work, BOINC assigns you a Work Unit but something goes wrong somewhere along the line and you never get the WU... so a few mins later, you client tries again, gets assigned another WU which goes missing etc. etc.

As they guys said, BOINC will reissue the work...

Mike,

I did crunch these WUs! They also got transferred back to the server but the results obviously never made it to the database. Lost in Cyberspace ...
