I don't really like Boinc... but I'm ready to give it a chance. The problem is it doesn't seem to play nice! When the screensaver lauches, I see scrolling text moving across the screen telling me that BOINC is running. The problem is that if I come back 4 hours later, only about 10 minutes of work has been accomplished!! What gives?? I have a feeling that BOINC is "pausing" itself when the monitor turns off but I can't understand why... Any ideas?? |

Check you energy settins to make sure the system and hard drive aren't going to sleep. Also, the screensaver really doesn't work yet for the Mac. That will be in future version. Turn off the screensaver, and under energy settings, let your monitor just go black. If you must run a screensaver, choose something very simple. Screensavers use a lot of CPU power. Does this mean I need to keep BoincManager open at all times for it to run when the computer is idle?? |

I ran Boinc for the first time for a few hours last night and built up a full 30 minutes of CPU time. I was on power adaptor and my energy settings are to never sleep HD or system when on external power. It's not a sleep issue, unless Boinc turns itself off on display sleep. This was particularly annoying to discover since I had previously spent half an hour working out how to set up the screensaver and how to get it not to add a delay between when the screensaver launched Boinc and when Boinc actually started processing stuff. |
