IS there any way of stopping my modem calling up for new work etc and not being able to connect? I have a anti-virus program that only downloads when it is connected to the internet. Can anything be done with Boinc that only allows this? I am feed up with looking at my messages and finding most of it in red because either I am not on the net or the schedulers are not responding. |

Do I get this right? You only want to go online while sitting in front of your puter? Was my behaviour as well, but some beta-project made me change my mind ;) I always changed the 'Disable/Enable network communications' in the main menue manually while being online/offline. Never had any probs until this this beta arrived, and demanded being online while finishing a WU. Now I make better use of my flatrate, but I think it still works. I have my General Preference setting set up this way: Confirm before connecting to Internet? (matters only if you use a modem) yes Disconnect when done? (matters only if you use a modem) no It doesn't auto dial a connection ever. I've never had mine try to connect on it's own. does this help? tony PS General preference settings are changed by clicking on "your account" then "general preferences". |

the only way I know to stop that is to open the boinc manager, click on "File", then select "disable network access". You then need to "enable network access when you sign on. I don't bother, they're just messages anyway and don't effect your crunching ability. does this help? tony |

I have my General Preference setting set up this way: This was broken for a long time. I believe that it is supposed to be fixed in 4.45. BOINC WIKI |

Although I'm not entirely fond of the new scheduler scheme (which started with V4.35), I use 4.45 and would recommend an upgrade. This doesn't mean your issue will be fixed, but others will. have a nice weekend tony Note: if you use the "no new work" feature, be warned that the project tab doesn't display it as such in the status display. |

Still does it? So what was the point in upgrading? Because 4.45 fixes several issues with ghost WU and a couple issues with the LTD calulations with projects that are not responding for some reason like the Scheduler crashing right after it starts up... :) I'd rather speak my mind because it hurts too much to bite my tongue. Dr. Anderson posted a question to the Developers mailing list asking about the need for additional settings for cache vs connect interval. You may want to go there and express an opinion. |
