I can't use any "harsh chemicals" pesticides, insecticides or herbicides
where I live because they are banned.

I am looking for good recipes for "soft" type
of weed or bug control, something you know works.

This year we have a great infestation white worms or grubs on lawns and I am trying to find something that works but not expensive.

Some "natural" type products are available here at the stores, but at a ridiculous prices.

any suggestions ?

do you know which type of grub? do they have brown heads, and white bodies?
If you have grubs than the next thing you'll have is Moles tunnels throughout your yard (moles eat grubs). Most grubs will turn into flying beetles. you can get those yellow/green traps to catch and kill the flying beetles before they lay eggs for next years grub growth.

does this help?

I don't have my books with me in Michigan, so I'm flying blind here. Find out what the beetles like in your yard/garden. Mix up some dish detergent and water in a spray bottle, and regularly coat whatever they are eating. They will move to your neighbors yard. LOL

you might try placing 1/2 a beer can or empty vegetable can (with beer in it) on a tin pie plate filled with soapy water in the spot of the grub infestation. I can't remember if this treats the grubs or the beetles.

In olden days.. they'd take the bathwater, and wash the clothes in the bathwater with lye soap.
Then, they'd put that soapy water in their gardens to kill bugs.

Surround your Garden with Hardy Mums for some reason they even stop most Flying insects from reaching your garden.

grubs don't venture to deep into the ground so using a every short fence (fine chicken wire) buried 4 inches around the garden will stop most of them. If you make it 6 or 7 inches high it might keep the rabbits out too. They aren't fond of getting trapped behind a fence.

Depending on the species of grass your lawn is made of a very light sprinkling of salt will do a real number on grubs and slugs. Too much salt could kill grasses that are not very hardy.

I'd rather speak my mind because it hurts too much to bite my tongue.

The grubs are white and brown.

The biggest problem I have is that they eat the grass roots and this creates brown patches .
In early May the bird were tearing up all the lawns in my neighborhood in search of them
good thing to get rid of them but bad for me I had to repair the mess on my property.

(I don't have a garden only flower beds ).

I will try the liquid soap if I find any.

thank you.

to my knowledge (without having books handy), the only way to kill the grubs is to get more birds, get more moles, or get chemicals like "grub-ex". You can try to kill them after they become a coppery/green beetle (japanese beetle) with the yellow/green baited traps so there might be less next year. The beer and soapy water trap might work on a lawn, but i've only thought of it for gardens.
