Just a quick simple question that I don't feel like going and finding the answer to. When you join a team, and have never been a member of a team before, do your existing credits get applied to the team you join or do only the credits that you earn during the actual time you are a member get applied?

Thanks. Your English is better than putting German into Babelfish and having it translate :)

My understanding was that your credits do not get transferred to the team. Even though when you look at your name on the teamlist it will show all of your RAC and total points, they will not be added in to the teams score. Only credits for WU's you process while a member of that team are taken in to account.

Likewise, when you leave a team, the credits you produced while you belonged to that team are retained by the team. They still show up on your personal score but credit for those WU's cannot be transferred to another team.

And it seems to me to be the fair way to do it.

No, your English is not that bad. It's much better than the translators - I have a hard time understanding what the translators say, but I can understand you just fine. And you are to be commended for trying, you know a lot more English than I know of German.

Good news for the teams else crunchers might be hopping from team to team every other day. Bad news for crunchers who can't make up their minds though! :)

I wonder what happens when a team is disbanded? Not that it would happen that often and mainly for the smaller teams I guess. I would have thought the credits are re-allocated.

I quote from http://boinc.berkeley.edu/teams.php

"Total and average credit is accounted for teams, and reflects all work done by participants while they belong to the team"

This would imply that teams only get credit from users while they are a part of the team, regardless of past team associations. Now wether or not that is fully implemented yet... who knows. I believe this was the official word during seti-classic as well but it never happened.

It is implemented. We had a new member join that already had credit on another team and our team credits didn't go up. They showed the credit the person had already gained on the team page but it wasn't added to the our Team ...

Now all we need to completely verify this is someone who has no prior team affiliation to join a team. The Knights Who Say Ni! are always accepting new members :) Just be sure to look at total credit before and after you join.

Actually I am rather curious about this question seeing as it has a large impact on my stats site now that I am starting to record team history and production trends.

I can verify this is true. I had no members a week ago and my personal stats were something like 30 or so. Guido was the first to join my team and he had over 2 thousand at the time. The team stats didn't change at all immediately after he joined. Later that day he posted a message saying he was just finishing a wu, then they changed.

I can also verify this. When I started Beta, in early 2004, it was already implemented. I started crunching, and by the time that I created a team, I was already a few CS behind.

When a person changes to another team, his/her credits aren't transfered to the new team. The work that they complete after joining the team, goes towards that team. This was implimented to discourage constant team jumping, just to bump up one teams stats. You leave whatever credits you did while a member of a team behind.

I didn't like that idea at first but after I thought about it for awhile I think thats the way it should be. If you run a bunch of Credits for 1 Team & then want to leave the Credits should stay with the Team you ran them for. You get to take your personal Credits with you so your losing nothing in that sense ...
