I'm wondering how one knows their systems are working properly. I setup boinc with S@H and have 4 systems working on this boinc project, but I can see no change in my stats. I've been working overnight so should see several wus complete. The stats indicate nothing. Also, I had 270wus on the old SETI but only get credit for 60-70. Does anyone know what this is about? I moved over yesterday.

Much thanks

Which stats are you looking at? Granted credit?

There is generally a delay between when a result is returned, and when credit is granted.

On BOINC, WUs need to be verified by two other hosts to ensure your result is valid. This can take some time. Sometimes weeks.

And since this project was reset, all of the WUs are being sent out new. This will add to the delay.

If you want instant gratification, look in your pending credits. This will show your WUs as soon as you report them.

As for your old Seti credits, the current snapshot was taken around the middle of May. Whether it will be updated or not is anyone's guess.

And they also change the quroum rule to 3 results instead of 2...

And, some will generate no credit at all ... so, this is a more complex system with lots more to do:

Look in the glossary for "Credit", benchmark, and then follow the links till you get dizzy ...

Heck Let me advertise again:

As part of an "unofficial" effort to document the SETI@Home Powered by BOINC, the following documents have been written to aid you in the use of BOINC:

All credits, pending and otherwise show zero (0).
I've had 4 machines working overnight on this so should have several credits. Perhaps things are locked up in cache, but how would I know? Is there a way to check?

Please note I'm using the command line package on SuSE 9.1.
I have no GUI.

Your pending credits are zero? (check this on your account page)

If they are zero, have you reported the WUs? Sending in results with BOINC is a two step process. After a WU is finished, the results are uploaded. Then the results need to be reported. Until a result is reported, you will see nothing in pending on your account page.

Reporting is either automatic, or you can "force" it.

And no, don't be expecting to see credit granted overnight until there are many completed WUs in the "pool". Sometimes it can take weeks to get something granted.

Stop each client and restart it with the flag [ -update_prefs http://setiathome.berkeley.edu ]. This will force the uploaded wu's to be reported. Normally, wu's are only reported when you ask for more work, so if you cache a large number at once (it looks like you have 11 on each system), nothing will appear until you have completed all of them and asked for more.

Ahhh clarity is such a sweet thing at times.

Much thanks, Darren.

Yo, Rocky :-)

The -update_prefs switch is only needed if you wish to restart the program. In Windows, you should be able to select Update Preferences from a menu.

The GUI_RPC port should be working, though. You should be able to telnet to port 31416 and send the following text after you're connected:

http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/

...assuming you're using the new URL.

I, personally, have been using the GUI_RPC port for all this stuff and sending those commands like that. It works like a charm. :-)

Rob,

Can you elaborate just a bit please. When I telnet to port 31416 and input the URL, it only comes back and says "unrecognized". I've tried it telnetting from the local host and tried it from a remote host with the -allow_remote_gui_rpc flag running. It returns the same "unrecognized" both ways.

Thanks.

Go to www.davidzilch.co.uk/boincgui and down load the compiled i686 gui. Put it in your linux BOINC directory. It is a rough version of the windows GUI.
