OK, I got an old Zeos (Gosling MB) maxed out at 64 meg of ram. Suggestd OS for cranking out SETI. Next, a Micron Pentium II, also maxed out at a gig. OS for it? Please dont say windoze. |

OK, I got an old Zeos (Gosling MB) maxed out at 64 meg of ram. Suggestd OS for cranking out SETI.. Cannot do Boinc unless you can upgrade the memory to at least 96 meg of ram. Boinc needs to see 64 meg free AFTER the OS loads. Maybe donate it? Next, a Micron Pentium II, also maxed out at a gig. OS for it? Knoppix Linux makes a cd that has Boinc built in that will run from the cd. It uses the hard drive as a swap file only and can actually be used on Windows machines as long as they are setup to boot from the cd before the hard drive. It will not affect the Windows installation and when not using Knoppix you can remove the cd and then boot right into Windows. |
