On the 2 June Id been with SETI@home for six whole years!

To be honest, I don't think anything has been more stable in my life :)
Since 1999;

Iv lived on 2 different continents,
Iv lived in 3 different countries,
Iv lived in 4 different cities,
Iv had atleast 5 girlfriends,
Iv changed every bit in my computers, several times,
etc etc etc...

All my units have been processed on my own -home- equipment, ranging from;
a Mac that took 87 hours for each WU,
a 333Mhz Celeron, a 700 Celeron, a 1.8 Celeron,
Till today, when Im running a 2.3Mhz+ Overclocked AMD that churns out WU every 2 hours!
Every puter has been crunching 24/7 when possible.

In 20 days I might reach 5000wu, if I don't outlive the project :)

Now, to my penny's worth:
I have tried BOINC several times from BETA till Recent, and I have to say it is living up to its name! What a heap of sh*t!
When SETI@home ("classic") is closing down, so am I (together with most others).

So Long, and Thanx for all the Fish !!!

Yup - 6 years it is (19th of May 1999) amazing!

Ok, looks like we Scandinavians (you form Norway and me from Sweden = neighbors) have something in common. Am crunching for a Danish team (ESEA) as well!

I've been crunching WUs from
2 different continents (Europe and Asia)
3 different countries (Sweden, Singapore and Malaysia)
4 different cities (Stockholm, Boras, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur)
5 (at least) different computers (i guess you outperform me on girlfriends)
etc. etc. etc

Yes, I do agree that this is a BETA project for whatever it is worth or not and I have also had my thoughts about leaving the project and use my boxes for other things. Somehow I am still around and I am glad for that today. Stability has improved a lot even though there been a lot of communication problems lately. Not to blame the BOINC project though - as I understand totally out of their hands. Still very annoying though!!!!:-(

Fish?

C u l8er!

Happy crunching

A fellow scandinavian neighbor here, with 6 years of crunching on his back ;) although it seems I've been a bit more stable than you guys when it comes to where I've lived (two moves, two cities, same country during those 6 years).

On thoughts about leaving: during my time on classic I never considered leaving the project. But then again, I didn't participate in the message boards - so in view of my interest in the seti project and therefore in the seti@home project, it never even occured to me.

When I made the switch to boinc, some things changed. I got involved in the message boards, I started to invest more time and energy to do more for the team and the community. And only then I've at times gotten to the point where I at times consider leaving - but not because of boinc... I guess I'll never really get to the point where I actually leave - with all that I've already invested, it would be a waste. In stead I try to work even harder, for the team and the community

I wish I had more time to put in some efforts as well. I have all the resources needed but no time! That's the way life is I guess. Compilers, webspaces, boxes and so on. But where to buy some time!
Yea yea, back to business!

Wow. I completely overlooked my 6 year anniversary as well. I remember the first night I installed the original client (1.06 I think it was). I sat in front of my PC for about two hours just watching the colored graph as it slowly processed its work unit. I kept imagining what sounds and signals were in that tiny chunk of data, where they came from, how long they had taken to reach earth. It was (and still is) pretty cool!
