You read 'some' of his posts? You should read 'all' of his posts. He posts the same old rhetoric over, and over, and over, and over.... He seldom gives his own opinion on the topics he posts. But, when he does, don't counter his opinion. You will either get no response from him or he'll copy/paste or link to some crap from the Internet. He WILL NOT debate his point of view.

He is ANTI-AMERICAN, ANTI-BUSH [not that I agree with Bush et al.], ANTI-BUSH ADMINISTRATION.... He is un-American, un-patriotic....

You may defend anyone's right's you feel necessary to. But you might choose your battles carefully. As stated by the previuos poster, please read all the posts made by Paul again. Stephen, even you do not find it necessary to be repatative in your dislikes on multiple threads. You as most of us, say our peace and move on. we speak with our own words, not the words of others. we have original thoughts, and we accept differing opinions and rebuttals. We do not discount other peoples opinions normally. We do this only because of the repetative bashing presented by Paul. Stephen, just because you do not participate in classis anymore is of no matter. You crunch for Boinc.
As repeated in many other threads, Paul has been afforded the opportunity to be provided a copy of an OS that would allow him to crunch Boic completely free of charge which was declined.

and hence the reason for this thread. Let paul have a place to post his spam. Allow those who don't want to see it, a chance to completely avoid it(not to see it in threads for Boinc/Seti users). It's my right not to have to read his (IMO) crap.

Let him post here and then none of use will be required to even scroll past it.

Have you seen his Seti Classic numbers? It's about a weeks worth of work, and One Boinc WU. Would you defend a NAMBLA(national association for man/boy love association, or something to that effect) memgers right to post here if all he posted was what he and other NAMBLA members did to young boys?

Fuzzy, I'm not proud of the way I feel about the paul issue. Steve or anyone is free to look at every one of the 1000+ posts in the 10 months I've been doing boinc. They will find no other example of me picking on someone. They shouldn't judge based upon limited info.

Well I'll defend everybody's right to free speech, regardless of what the speech consists of.

If a crime has been committed, then the perpetrator should be punished for committing that crime, but not for talking or fantasizing about it.

What constitutes a crime is open to debate, but for any kind of real debate you need to start with freedom of speech.

In a democracy you cannot please all of the people all of the time, there will always be people who will disagree with you and with whom you disagree.

If you don't like what someone says you should (imho) either engage constructively or just ignore.

You did not offend me. EVERYONE and I mean EVERYONE has the freedom to express themselves. It not that I disagree with the opinions of others that have been posted. I don't always agree with the level of action that some feel they must take.

Let us say for argument sake you had a neighbor who every day came to you house and rang your door bell. When you answered the door that neighbor proceeded to bitch about another neighbor. Everyday the same bitch, but each day said in a different manner. Would you not tell this person to stop?

If you have repeatedly ask this person to stop and yet they continued would you not try your best to ignore this person?

Once ignored this person then started knocking on your all your windows and all your doors, would you not want this person to move to a different neighborhood or have them locked up?

He has been asked politely to stop and move on to the next topic. He has refused..

He has been ignored. He creates multiple threads with the same rethoric dominating the board.

He has been asked to stop and refuses.

There is a fine line between Freedom of Expression and Being a Nuisance and to many of us that line has been crossed. We have asked him to stop, but he continues.

You argue that Zippy has a "right" to post here, but the right you are referring to, freedom of speech, is not as broad as you seem to think it is. Anyone can give their political views, but not anywhere or under any circumstances. Certainly you must know that some restrictions have always applied to this right: e.g. calling a black man a "nigger" in anger, or entering a synagog to denounce Judaism are as bad, and as restricted, as crying "fire" in a crowded theater (which is the classic example of restriction on speech).

This forum is not a soapbox in the park where such political ideas may be freely expressed, it is a forum set up for the users of SETI/BOINC, and as such, certain rules may be created for the contributors to this project so that these forums may be enjoyed by those who are permitted to use them. If Berkeley says there will be no attacks, no spamming, no flooding of the boards, etc. that's well withing their right to control the flow of information here.

If an ignore setting is not a restriction on the Constitutional right of freedom of speech, how is having a disruptive, unproductive poster post in a single thread (to be more easily ignored) a violation of such right? What Tony is trying to do here is not a violation of anyone's "rights".
