Ok, a LONG time since there is any significant update to talk about. But, I am doing something new NOW. With Dr. Anderson's permission I am migrating his documentation and mine into a common Wiki baseline.
This means that more people than I can actually be adding content at the same time. So, I am taking submissions for people that are interested in possibly becoming a contributer. I need, the Posting name, your real name, and a valid e-mail address sent to me by e-mail (if you can't do that, well, ...). For the moment, my selection of contributers/editors is final. In general, if you are a developer or other project member this will be a given. People that constructively contribute to the message boards will be considered. Again, for the moment, my elections will be final.
To start I do not plan to add too many fingers to the soup, so, be patient. If this is a more popular format for the documentation, we should be able to get it all under one roof. But, miles to go ...
At some point, assuming this goes well, most of my current site will evaporate along with (hopefully) the current UCB site...
Oh, and you can't miss the new link, I hope ... |

Good for you Paul. :) Again, for the moment, my elections will be final. But probably there's places available for hard cash at the end of the year. ;) Just kidding. You do good work. What would we do without you?! :) |

Good for you Paul. :) Yes, well, for those considering bribery, in my opinion, $8,000 is not too much to pay for a cutting-edge computer. Though I usually wimp out in the $4,000 area ... and I only do one or two a year like that ... Well, part of the Wiki expiriment is to see if we can get along ... there is also another Wiki going up in German, and I think that with some effort on my part we should be able to have them supply the German speaking world with material from the site. But, If I cannot show that the responsibility is there, and that we can do it without requiring massive support from the developers, well, maybe it is all doomed ... |

Sounds like a worthy plan to me. Kolch - Crunching for the BOINC@Australia team since July 2004. Search for your own intelligence... |

Sounds like a worthy plan to me. Which? The "wiki part" or the "bribery part"? |

Oh, and you can't miss the new link, I hope ... I don't think the link is visible enough. But at least there is now an official link to FAQ. Hopefully this will be worthy of a link on the navbar of this site in the near future. I sometimes seek the help of wikipedia and often find the info current and accurate. This is the way to go for BOINC documentation. You are going to get lots of help, i'm sure. Good on ya Paul! |

Oh, and you can't miss the new link, I hope ... Well, I just spent a few minutes looking for a link starting at the HOME tab, and can't find one. |

Which? The "wiki part" or the "bribery part"? I was referring to the wiki part, though for those that can afford it bribery is also a worthy plan. Sadly you'll have to count me out of those that can afford it :-( Kolch - Crunching for the BOINC@Australia team since July 2004. Search for your own intelligence... |

I give, where is the link? If you go to the main page of my documentation and look for a little tiny star that says Wiki on it ... :) Also, Dr. Anderson did make a new link on the "BOINC Main page" as shown. IF, this works out, maybe in a later build I can get the BOINC Manager's help to link to the Wiki for help on the client. AND, a help link on the web pages. But, this is another step in that direction where all of my material and all of the UCB documentation site are in ONE place (well, as soon as I get done moving all of it) ... Time will tell ... Now, breakfast, then back to work ... |

I give, where is the link? Paul, no critcism of the caliber and quantity of the work on your current doc site intended, but the navigation is a little tough. I think this tends to discourage the less highly motivated user when they're poking around. Alinator |

I think this tends to discourage the less highly motivated user when they're poking around. Alinator, Well, we are trying again ... the current site is "frozen", if I add content it is going into the Wiki... Feel free to tell me how to organize it ... It is easy to say something is not good ... but, it is harder to come up with a suggestion on how to organize it ... so, I take it I will get a suggestion from you how I should set-up the navigation in the Wiki? As I said, the current site is like organization/system #5, second ISP, and now with the Wiki ... we are starting over. I have most of the glossary done, added a acronym list, and started to move the Owner's Manual over ... Anyway, I am looking forward to your guidance ... |

Paul, no critcism of the caliber and quantity of the work on your current doc site intended, but the navigation is a little tough. I think this tends to discourage the less highly motivated user when they're poking around. The problem I had intially was I found I was getting "lost" when I started drilling down through the links to definitions, other references, etc. as I was exploring given topic. It wasn't so much that the nav tools aren't there, but there's just so much material to absorb for a project like BOINC it can be overwhelming at times. As I became more familiar with BOINC and the site's format I didn't seem to get the feeling I was lost anymore, but it took about a couple of weeks until I got to that point. My guess is once you get it fully migrated to the WIKI format, with its more familiar interface and format to a larger spectrum of users, this won't be as much of an issue for the less patient and/or determined. In any event, I admire your courage to even attempt such an endeavor for a complex moving target like BOINC. :-) Alinator |

This may be a dumb idea but I'll put it out there as a starting point. Could you not setup the pages with navigation bars at the top and sides that resemble the tabs and menus of the Boinc client. It seems to me that would provide a fairly intuitive approach to finding what you're looking for as it relates to the client itself. Boinc V7.2.42 Win7 i5 3.33G 4GB, GTX470 |

That was expiriment number 3 I think. It needed frames, and guess what ... IE does not do frames well ... so, yes, been there, done that ... IE has always been the biggest block in getting my site to work... heck, right now there are problems with images for some of the material. and IE is the only browser to have problems with the code... |
