Well, it was great with classic. Sadly, I am totally confused as to how to run the new one on my G5. When there is a Mac version that doesn't require me to be a terminal expert I will return. Will check back occassionally, have removed classic, shutting of the DSL connection, just too much frustration.

Don't give up on the terminal man, What version of Mac OS X r u using? if 10.3, download the version for that one, if the file u still downloaded file is in gz file name, if its on or in a folder in the desktop, type in terminal, cd desktop/if in folder/ press return, then type gunzip boinc.gz or whatever the file name is, then type chmod u+x boinc file name, and your set, u can run it by typing while ur in folder in terminal by typing ./boinc-rest of file name. or just by pressing tab.. if how ever your using 10.2.8, since the boinc version 3.20 won't work on it you can get one for Jaguar from here, http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah/download_other.php and do the same as i said before... Don't quit while ya can learn and learn fast....=)
Matt.

I do Unix for a living (I work for Sun). I have no problems at all in doing stuff from the terminal (heck, I remember when all there *was* was a terminal). However I agree with Charlie here; having downloaded this boinc thing, chmodded it and run it to be told that "there is no work available" I'm wondering what the point is. SETI might have to do without my obviously unrequired work units in the future. (And I've personally sent some 16,400 back on the apparently obsolete SETI@home system from my work account).

The SETI people need to remember that we are *volunteers*, not paid software testers. If this thing is still in a beta stage that should be made clear.

Hey Tony, Well Charlie Hasn't quit tho, take a look at the post, Yo, Matt.. and beside the no work thing will be fixed sooner or later.. Just be patient.. I'm getting it too, and when that does happen and other problems, I just start my CLI version of SETI@home classic for OS X...

Now 5th August and I'm seeing "No schedulers responded". This is a joke, right?

Ditto. I've tried everything with terminal. Terminal meaning the end. I'm a geographer, not a computer scientist (that's why I use a Mac). I'm sticking with classic, though, until it's end... at this rate, I wonder if it ever will :p !
