What are the best benchmark programs?

Since I have read the benchmarks instead the BOINC client are not completely accurate, what is the best way to Benchmark your system?

I know faster CPU's can make a good difference, but two major components I think a lot of people are overlooking are the hard drives and the motherboards.

I am contemplating replacing my Hard Drive with a solid state compact flash card. I have heard reports where people can get their XP system to boot up in 10 seconds when it is installed on a compact flash card.

The "best" benchmark is the work that you intend to do. That is why the current benchmarks stink so much. If you look in my lecture notes for the one on "performance" I disect a number of benchmarks including a bunch you have likely never heard of ...
