Come and get it...

Click to download page.

Oh did I mention it was a development version. If you don't know what that means, don't get it.

Looks like a winner, but on one box it did not run the bench mark, I am running seti@H only, p4 3.0 HT

We have changed the connection code in such a way that we hope we have cleaned up the last of the connection failed messages.

This release also includes some of John's scheduler fixes.

Which ones? The reason I ask is that if there's a fix in the piple that hasn't been included, it might limit folks reporting bugs where the fix might not make it until 4.45.

For example, is the fix for multiple CP WU's included? How about the fix for "Ghost WU's"?

I have a host running 4.44 that still gets connection failed greeting on every boot.
hostid=417855
Entering localhost doesn't work. Exiting and restarting BOINC always works.
No further connection failed 'til next reboot.

An interesting note, although this client contains fixes which are meant to go some way to fixing the ATI graphic bug, the projects need to update their apps for the fix to be fully effective. Wonder when we can expect to see these changes filter through. Not that I am affected by the graphic bug.

Not any time soon, since some of us at Pirates managed to find bugs (units erroring out when graphics were shown/screensavers were run). It'll also go wrong on nVidia cards these days.

Had a look at the details for this beta release. It includes this info:

"We are now including a tool with command line interface to control boinc within the default distribution"

Can anybody expand on this please? I am really keen to run boinc.exe with the option -return_results_immediately but at the moment this is quite involved to setup.

Thanks

I'd think it's the seperate boinccmd.exe that you can find in your Boinc directory. Start that one up instead of boinc.exe

(Just guessing. I don't think it works when you have Boinc installed as a service, but else you can play with it).

If john reads this.

I have find an issue. it cosmetic in nature not processing based but has other side effects.

The colour scheme for the stats page is not of a high enough contrast.

A colour blind person will not see a graph just to grey blocks.

If I can make a request that it may be nice to include a histogram as well as the line graph. I my self am visually handicapped. This would make graphs easier to read.

I am not saying make graphs black & white. (But you should think of the colour wheel when design informational graphics.)

Hi,
I just upgraded to 4.44 and since I forgot that the benchmarks are run when it first starts, I manually ran the benchmarks then noticed that 3 projects started to run at the same time. Here is a copy of the messages:

I could send a screen capture of the task manager but I don't know how to a add a Wordpad doc to this form.

@Appetiser

-return_results_immediately can be setup in a shortcut to start boinc.exe

The file boinccmd.exe can be used to control CC boinc.exe

The following info comes from source file boinc_cmd.C:

 boinccmd: command-line interface to a BOINC core client,
 using GUI RPCs.

 usage: boinccmd [--host hostname] [--passwd passwd] command

 commands:
 --get_state                   show entire state
 --get_results                 show results
 --get_file_transfers            show file transfers
 --get_project_status show status of all projects
 --get_disk_usage
 --result
      {suspend | resume | abort | graphics_window | graphics_fullscreen}
      url result_name
 --project
        {reset | detach | update | suspend | resume | nomorework | allowmorework}
      url
 --project_attach url auth
 --file_transfer {retry | abort} url filename
 --get_run_mode
 --set_run_mode {always | auto | never}
 --get_network_mode
 --set_network_mode {always | auto | never}
 --get_proxy_settings
 --set_proxy_settings
 --get_messages seqno show messages > seqno
 --get_host_info
 --acct_mgr_rpc url name password
 --run_benchmarks
 --get_screensaver_mode
 --set_screensaver_mode on|off blank_time {desktop window_station}
 --quit

Hi All

I can't find the command line tool either. their is no boniccmd.exe.

I would like to no more.

If you're looking for 'BONICCMD.exe' then you won't find it. It is 'BOINCCMD.EXE' BOINC = Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing.

If you have installed 4.44 then there is a boinccmd.exe in the Progam FileBOINC folder.

I am not doing the graphics. You can enter a bug at boinczilla.axpr.net.

@jm7

So far so good with v4.44.

No extra wu's have been downloaded with limited testing so far. Because of Predictor's problems with their wu's I'm running it by itself. Soon will stop it and run Seti and Einstein.

The work scheduler seems to request wu's like v4.25 - v4.32 did.

Thumbs up!

@JohnM VII

If suspending the Manager, after going back to "Run based on preferences", the WU's that were crunching are remaining in the paused state.

Manager needs to be shut down and start over again to have the WU's to continu running.

A workaround is to suspend / resume on any wu.
