I know that the Boinc screensaver do the job, and I like too, but sometimes it will be fun to use another screensaver, is-this wise to select another instead of Boinc ? I use v. 4.43

You can chose not to use BOINC as your default screensaver at install, so you are allowed other screen savers.
I only ever use one screen saver, blank screen.
Any screensaver (other than blank) takes CPU away from the science applications, so I wont use them.
There are some reports of systems perhaps not responding well or quickly when exiting 3rd party screensavers, so your milage may vary.
Give it a try, it wont do any lasting harm.

In general BOINC does not do well with the 3D screensavers.

I believe that the problem is the amount of processor time that the 3D screen savers take. If this is the case, the answer is no. Otherwise, there is the possibility, but it may be quite a while as there are only a very few staff developers. If you know how to program and you are in a hurry, you can try to fix any problem yourself as it is opensource.
