I have BOINC installed on 7 Win98 PC's at work and everyone of them fails to shut down BOINC when rebooting. - Extremely annoying and confusing for my computer illiterate staff :(

Is this being looked at for the next release? I would think that this should be a relatively easy thing to fix - and it would be much appreciated.

Thanks for all your work, the new interface is looking good.

Thanks,
Michael

ps. If you have time, I would love to be able to sort my columns like in the old interface :)

Is this really such a problem?
Considering that boinc saves its data and status occasionaly, then I would think that the most that could happen is the loss of the small amount of data crunched since the last save, and the client, while it complains a bit on restart, does recover, and continue where it left off.

I believe there is a way to automatically issue commands when win98 is shutting down, but I can't remember the syntax or the relevant filenames offhand, and this won't help at all if the staff are in the habit of pressing ctrl-alt-del or the reset button all the time.

BOINC question? Look here

I run WinMe. I don't run my computer 24/7. It runs about 12 - 18 hours a day. At night before I shut down the computer I have to open Boinc and click exit. It's not that big of a deal. If I don't exit Boinc before shutdown it asks if I want to close it. I say "ok". Then it shuts down. I never loose work. It always picks up just where it was the next morning when I start up.

True, it's not much of a problem, but it's "ugly", and elegance *does* count.

I had this problem as well. Here is what worked for me. Unzip and place this file in your Windows folder. http://www.wakeassoc.com/setidriver/default.zip

It is a Windows issue NOT a Boinc issue. Windows 98 does not handle the files very well, we had to do a workaround using the CLI program under Classic too.
It happens with a LOT of programs under 98 and earlier. I only used Me for a VERY short time, and the current machine I have running it NEVER gets turned off, so I can't say if it exists there.
IIRC it has to do with the way Windows allocates the memory and how during the shutdown process Windows does not automatically free up the memory and when it sees something running it does not know how to handle it so it stops and creates an error message, of course with the obligatory non informational message.
