What i want is very simple:

The same functionality as the old seti@home

at this moment i have several problems with Boinc:

1) to let the "screensaver" work i need to put it in my preferences at run always. I don´t want to run it always: I want it to run when I´m Away: just as the old one. I wanna do work on my system, and Boinc makes this harder(slower). which is for me, unacceptable.

2) it get´s paused forever when i put Always run on no in my preferences. see 1. I can´t even manually force it to start. I want to run it as a screensaver: nothing more!

3) the graphics are inconsequent: one time they run, next time they don´t. Yes I have an ATI (Radeon mobile.)

4) I wan´t a screen saver, no apache web server. so when I have to read 30+ pages to let my screensaver run the way I want, or better, understand what it is doing... well, that´s ....not so great, to say the least.

5) the Boinc icon get´s in the systemtray more then once...

I´m a long time user of seti@home, as a screensaver. (since ´99). I´ve put up with the ocassional crash(once a week) of the original screensaver since then, but boinc makes me wanna "boinc" it in the trash can, and install a normal screensaver. if you look at my work units, you´ll see a very steep decline since boinc because it simply doesn´t do what i want it to do: run as a screensaver, no cpu util when I´m at the PC doing my work..

sorry for the rant, it wasn´t ment to be one, it just happened..

I to have been having problems with setting preferences. On four machines I am running boinc 4.19, these will work with the default preferences. I set the default preference then installed boinc on the machines. When I did this the default preferences run. If I than try to change to a preference to "home" or "work" the machine seems to ignore the prefernce change and stay with the defalut setting. A few times they seem to accept the "home" or "work" preferences and then I can't seem to change back to default setting. I am not sure if the program is the problem of if I am the problem.

I have boinc ver 4.25 on several machines and the preferencs seem to work okay.
Make sure to use update in the boinc manager to accept the preference changes.
