Hands up here anyone that has made a donation to SETI...Anyone?

I was just reading about how they have donations set up at BURP and i was very interested. Users are given recognition for their donations. Simple things like listing them as a Project Donor with their forum posts. Also the ability to specify the usage of funds donated is cool.

Wonder if there's any chance we could have the same sort of thing here.

Hmm. I didn't even know that SETI accepted donations. But if they do, then it sounds like a good idea to me.

The thing is, my printer doesn't work right now, so I can't print out the form. Can I still send a donation by mail some way?

Of course - just write down pertinent information (name/address/etc. that's on the form) on a piece of paper and mail it in with your check/money order/etc.

Thanks!

Hi Matt and Gang....

I believe that sending donations is a great thing and should be done. If, IF you can afford to due so....

I send a donation every month but in the form of my electrical bill, I can't afford to send money to Berk after that.

8 Machines @ 2.50 a month (conservative est) thats 20.00 U.S.

I am not complaining, I just want fellow crunchers who can't afford to send money that they should not feel bad about it, Thier donation of processing time is worth the reconigtion.

I agree. Donating cold hard cash is for those that can spare it. Still, more people might spare it if they get some recognition for it. I myself can't really spare it, so I do my best to fundraise ;-)

I for got about that too! Of course I would die if I went back to dial-up and I feel bad for those who have it. I am still agast at the cost of cable and high speed.

You would think that the cost's would go down as the users went up. It'll take all of us to go on strike to get the providers attention....Won't happen....

Hmm, you should see how much DSL costs in Germany when you're using T-Online. Let's just say that when the free hours are up, you can buy a decent small-sized car at the end of the month. There's no way that I'd go back to dial-up either cuz I'm too used to broadband speed now.

I agree, getting a lot of people to strike like that won't happen. So I guess we gotta just keep paying that much. Maybe cheap satellite is the answer.

On a recently distributed flyer, they again advertised $30 a month with an asterisk for cable. Of course I had to go to the website to find out what the real price will be after the first three months. Turns out, it's still five dollars over the cost of my dialup ISP and extra phone line combined. And that, of course, doesn't cover the bridge and the connection charge. Considering it's convenient to have a second line for other reasons, I still can't see switching.

I also sent them some bucks last year when there was a group of us trying to help them get a hardware raid instead of the software one they had then. Must've worked, 'cause they upgraded later. It was through the UC Berkeley Foundation, and it was online so you could use your credit card to do so, and specify where the money was to go. I also got a nice letter from the U. of C. with a receipt that those of us in the USA can use to deduct on our taxes.

Here's a link to the thread from last fall:

And if you go here, there's a form and a link at the bottom to do it online:
donate

Twenty bucks for eight machines in a month? If that's anywhere near accurate, you got it good! I'm estimating about $18 (CDN) a month just for my ONE machine.
