My BOINC install (ver. 4.19) on Mandrake Linux 9.1 seems to be stuck and I'm not finding what command line switch or extra parameter I must use to fix things. My Linux box was not able to make a network connection for a few days, and when the network was restored, BOINC/seti is not happy. I start BOINC with: boinc_4.19_i686-pc-linux-gnu and receive the following output: 2005-05-11 00:04:05 [---] Starting BOINC client version 4.19 for i686-pc-linux-gnu 2005-05-11 00:04:05 [SETI@home] Project prefs: no separate prefs for home; using your defaults [snip] 2005-05-11 00:04:05 [---] General prefs: from SETI@home (last modified 2005-03-16 12:26:09) [this last modified date is rather suspicious! the network connection was only down for a few days] 2005-05-11 00:04:05 [---] General prefs: no separate prefs for home; using your defaults 2005-05-11 00:04:05 [SETI@home] Deferring communication with project for 1 weeks, 4 days, 9 hours, 49 minutes, and 8 seconds 2005-05-11 00:04:05 [SETI@home] Deferring communication with project for 1 weeks, 4 days, 9 hours, 49 minutes, and 8 seconds [just repeats the last two outputs.] Any clue about this? Should I back up the work units and re-install? or is there a file I should throw out and override the startup with some switch. The boinc help file commands I tried using to start up boinc didn't resolve the situation. Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated. -*-Bill |

You can force your system to contact Berkeley by resetting the project with the -reset_project switch. This will erase any work units and results you have. or if you are brave, you can try to preempt the next scheduled RPC as described here On Paul Buck's Site |
