Nice work to the guys that got back to the lab and got us back up and running again. Even better they found time to keep us in the loop as soon as they could work out what the problem was.

I guess you could say that the servers protective systems are working, at least at some level, after that unplanned test.

Anyhow, cheers to the guys at Berkeley ;-)

Good note.

Shame that the dumbass lazy wingers create a far greater volume of postings. If they took time to read something about the project and the other boinc projects, they might improve their knowledge and patience a little.

Happy crunchin',

Martin

It seems to me in the UK, that the system is recovering excellently from the latest Cogent infliction, and the network UPS issue.
I just left my boxes to sort themselves out, all the errors eventually vanished, workunits flowed, all seems peachy.

My hearty congratulations to all at Berkeley, that system is more robust than most of us (sorry for the generalisation folks) give it credit for, and it's still developing! Well done all!

Sadly Not so in this part of the UK ;(

Since the cogent link was restored, I still have 17 trying to upload. It was 21, so only 4 + whatever work was completed since then have gone through.

I have had a few downloads though.

I'm not really expecting it to clear before evening (BST) - assuming the connection holds-up that long...

Had the same trouble. I just hit retry now, and it was all cleared in 30 mins. Just need to keep pressing that button.

I was just observing that Ken said he just 'let the machines sort themseves out'. That's the bit that isn't happeing for me.
For once, I thought I would resist the temptation to click away and see how well things sort themselves.

Actually, hitting the retry button over and over will hammer your work through at the expense of everyone else.

If you just wait, the work units will upload by themselves. It'll just take a little longer.

The reason for the outage is probably old news, but I thought I might post what Cogent told me when I complained. They got a lot of bad press, but seemed to respond well to me...

===================
Dear Cogent Customer,

Your service was restored on the 3a.m. on May 8th. Trouble was isolated to bad light levels on Comcast fiber span and corrected.

Thanks,

Cogent Customer Support

Dear Customer,

Please provide us with more information so that we may assist you. If you are having a network outage problem please call us at 1-877-726-4368 and provide us with your company name of record, order id number, and/or account number so that we may resolve your issue as soon as possible. If you prefer to email please provide the information listed above in your email.

Thank you,
Cogent Support

Why is it that this project's main issue is always their networking?
Don't they have the right equipment or service contract?
