When the BOINC client fails to connect to the server for several times, it inserts delays between connection attempts. This is quite reasonable for standalone work, but could there be a way to force connection? In SETI@Home Classic you could just dial your modem and then tell the client to "Connect now". BOINC version puts a delay even if I tell it to update project NOW. I am on a modem with autodial disabled, so when SETI@home tries to connect, it fails, and consequently increases the delay (yes, I know about the "suspend network activity" option, but I always forget to turn it on). When I see that the client needs to contact the server, I manually connect to the net, tell it to update the project, and it says back: "Suspending connection for 1 hour 42 minutes"! |

Updating manually is the way to "force" a connection. But updating the project manually will have no effect if the servers are stuffed. If they want to back you off if you try a manual update, there's nothing you can do short of another update. <a> [/url] |

The BOINC client thinks it has been backed off by the server even if the computer is not connected to the net at all. :) Then, even when you do manual update, the client says it is suspending the connection for, say, 1 hour 42 minutes. This has nothing to do with stuffed servers. |

Hi -- quote ... but could there be a way to force connection? -- endquote on the Projects - Tab right mouse button on the project you want to force a small menu apperas, having "Update" or "Update (retry now)" in the second line. Try clicking this line :-) if you want to retry sending a single result that has failed once ore more: Try a similar way in the Transfer - Tab. regards GriLLe -- Aus der Reihe "Was ist das?": WYSIWYGBNWYW bedeutet: What you see is what you get but not what you want |
