Looks like it's the regular weekend outage. I'm right here in Southern California and have been unable to connect to BOINC nor Classic for about the last 2 hours. It was working just fine and then just quit all of a sudden.......

SNAFU (Cogent that is)
They have the nerve to state on the company home page how reliable their network is ! Up times should be transposed and then taken with a pinch of salt!
Maybe if ALL of us took the time to write a short email to Cogent informing them of this problem then it may be repaired before Monday.

Classic is also down so no work available there either.
My pc is going to have a well earned rest from around midnight tonight.

Graeme.

With the Cogent network so FUBAR at the moment, it's hardly a good time for their customers to go negotiating prices with serious suppliers.

They'll all know Cogents' customers are scr*w*d and they wont need to offer any deals or incentives at all.

a) Someone sticky this! (Temporarily)
b) Those stupid COGENT idiots, fix this NOW!

I just checked BOINCView to find a lovely list of errors:

A Tracert shows that:

A normal tracert for me will hit:

klaatu.ssl.berkeley.edu as hop 15

The current tracert shows this:

Perhaps it's time everyone starts looking for at least one backup project. To avoid WUs for the backup project timing out, you should allocate at least 20% resources to it. I have 3 systems doing SETI+Einstein (chose the project(s) YOU prefer) and they're allocated:

1. 66:34 SETI:Einstein
2. 50:50 SETI:Einstein
3. 20:80 SETI:Einstein

The only time I have timed-out WUs was when I upgraded the BOINC client and it reset my projects. My systems run 24/7 and I NEVER run out of work.

Final Classic total: 11446 WU
Classic CPU hours: 72,366

But I only want to run ONE project.
Whilst doing Science, I might as well have the fun of Credits and Ranking.
IMO I happen to doing quite well in the World Rankings and team ranking too. But I am competeing with lots of people with similar processing capacity. If I devote even 5% of my time to A.N. Other project it makes an enormous difference. Like it or not, I do like credit, ranking and the 'races' competitions.
The lack of decent cross-project stats is the main reason I only run One project.

Before anyone says 'Increase you cache', I have an odd requirement.
Some weekends I get hold of other PCs - I may do as I wish over the weekend, including BOINC. But I only have a 1 hour download window on Friday night, and a few hours on Sunday night/Monday morning to return the work. So I d/l 3 days work process it then I cannot upload it. Also, BOINC must be uninstalled and totally deleted (including any work) by monday morning. So it's sorry to all you chaps waiting for credit for work I've done but deleted before update.

I just called Cogent Communications : 1-877-875-4311 with some choice words about this getting to be to often. They did say it was being investigated. Anybody else feel like calling, it's free call.

98SE XP2500+ @ 2.1 GHz Boinc v5.8.8

And God said"Let there be light."But then the program crashed because he was trying to access the 'light' property of a NULL universe pointer.
