I get this message when trying to download the new version:
Not Found
The requested URL /download/boinc_3.20_powerpc-apple-darwin.gz was not found on

I know the one I have, v. 3.18 should update itself but it hasn't so far...

The INTERNAL program updates itself NOT the base program. We are currently only authorized to use version 3.19 for the Seti project under Boinc. Regardless of whatever version Climate Predictor for Boinc has come out with, 3.20 is actually an Alpha version, it is NOT even a Beta yet!

Go look at the software page for Seti... it's new release, but unavailable.

That is incorrect. In fact, that is one of the reasons Seti has moved over to BOINC, so clients can be self-updating:
"Why is SETI@home switching to BOINC?
Several reasons:
BOINC transparently and securely downloads new application versions. This lets us upgrade and extend SETI@home without requiring you to download and install new software."

That is incorrect as well. On the download page for Seti, all clients have been updated to 3.20. It says nothing about this being an alpha. If it is, then it should be listed as such and/or not available for public download. I'm not talking about Climate Predictor at all...

I think there's just some confusion over what part is what.

Boinc is the software that seti runs within. Boinc does NOT auto-update itself. Seti is the software that runs within boinc. Boinc allows the seti software to auto-update.

When a new version of the seti executable is released, boinc will download it and the seti software is updated automatically.

When a new version of boinc is released (such as now with 3.20), the user must download and install that upgrade.

The reference you posted is not really correct (if you understand the "techie" talk"). Boinc won't update Boinc, but will update the seti "cruch code" (the application version - seti is an "application" in the BOINC world).

Want to hear something funny? When seti automatically gets updated and you don't manually update boinc, it might not process any more wu's!

All four of the file download links are bad... I started a thread here about it as it's not platform-specific (something tells me it's not going to get read by anyone who could fix it. Seems like a slow forum.)

OK, I understand what you are saying. If that's the way it works, then that's the way it works. The way the FAQ was written, however, is what makes for the confusion, IMHO.

I have a Masters and am a Java Developer, so I understand the "techie talk." This techie talk, however, was poorly written. What you wrote above is more clear than the FAQ.

Which is where I am now... :-(

3.20 is schudule for release to live no beta, but I think they have major problems with server. Some of the stats such as pending credits has been turned off for days even in Alpha. Beta has been temp close for weeks.
I cannot get rid of 32 "ready to report" wu's in Alpha on one computer and 13 on one of my other.
According to the stats my 3.40HT p4 has 906100.69 Recent average credit and 10530103.45 Total credit. My cpu must be on steroids, na the stats must be wrong.
Like I said major problems.
