Could we have a section of the help desk devoted to problems with the servers and communications with the servers? There are a lot of such problems (especially with the servers being down so much) and without a clear choice of sections postings about them get scattered through all of the various sections. Makes it hard to keep track.

There is no need, these problems are not going to last, BOINC is new and they need to sort out these problems when they do, questions asking about communication and servers will be rare ( I hope ) Just hang on and all will be solved :D

The front page has been updated to report the issue.

On that view, there's no need for any of the problem sections. But the problems are going to last. Servers do strange things, even after the systems have mostly been broken in. And even if the servers are working perfectly, people are still going to have problems with their connections. I don't know what the problems are going to be (nobody does -- if they did, the problems would be fixed before they became problems), but I do know that they will be there.

And for the nonce, which is when these boards are mostly needed, there are plenty of server problems to go around.
